Oh, god. I want to cry, but in a good way--I mean, a really fucked-up way, but this is so, so good. Daniel is just so broken, and the rest of them...oh, yeah. They're broken, too, and I think you are right about Cam--he's messed up in a different way. Wow.

They are SO FUCKED UP. I mean, Daniel is just messed up. Sam is so clinically dispassionate about it because she knows Daniel needs it but it isn't healthy for her. Cam is definitely shell-shocked but I think under-estimated - more broken and understanding of weird coping methods than they know, just not in the same way they are. And I don't even *know* what exactly is going on with Teal'c. Matter-of-fact but different from Sam. So intense and focused on doing what he needs for a friend/companion/teammember/fellow warrior/man he owes allegiance to thing...

(and I don't know if it's better or worse that I'm really seeing this as an extension of my OT3 verse)

I'm so glad I checked here to see if you'd posted a direct link before I went poking around trying to find it again over there -- very happy to find the full version!

I love this: It's a massive tug of war, keeping him on the edge. Too much pain and it's like their jobs, his life, and he shuts down. Too much pleasure and he isn't getting what he needs.

And the last line. And everything about the Carter pov. And how all the players are involved and interact, how you really got the whole pre-Vala team in there and made everybody count, and how much characterization there is of all of them, in and around the focus on Daniel and the focus through Carter's perspective.

Definitely files under 'Dude. Awesome.' :-)

Aw, thanks! This was very different to write, so I'm glad it came through well.

I didn't realize how detached I'd made Carter until someone pointed it out to me - but I think it makes sense that she'd have to detach a bit to do this, especially if what Daniel needs doesn't 100% make sense to her and how she operates. The was between "I shouldn't do this to someone I care about" and "I care about him enough to give him something he needs even if it's off to me" and yay interaction and characterization working!

I've written plenty of smut! I need to write more longer fic. *nods*

But yay to character driven and realistic and it all coming out! Nothing like stripping people down to really figure out how they tick.
