April Round-Up

May 01, 2008 10:17

So yesterday LJ pretty much wouldn't work for me all day long which meant things like not getting my 4th rec posted to stargateficrec. *hangs head in shame*

Also, man did April practically not exist for me for either writing or reading fic, so this is a tiny monthly roundup.

Fic I Recced

I grabbed "Sam and Daniel friendship" over at stargateficrec and then proceeded to ( Read more... )

*smooshes you*

I'm thinking we need to lobby and get the Sam and Daniel friendship promoted to a permanent category!

See, Fig said that one of the mods told her that if it's get grabbed enough it can be made a permanent category (it's happened before - though it still weirds me out that Jack & Sam friendship is a category when it's almost never used) which is part of why I grabbed it for April, even when I wasn't planning to rec because I knew my time would be tight.

But. YES!

I'm sure I'm the last to read it

I doubt it -- that fic deserved so much more feedback than it seems to have gotten so far. And I would really have expected it to be one of those fics that eats fandom; it puzzles me that it didn't. But maybe it's just too intricate and too dark.

really? *goes back to look*
Oh, wow, you're right. That's sad. Also totally adds to my theory of ficathon fics getting less feedback.

I can see maybe where it wouldn't eat fandom with the intricacy and the dark and the not-quite-gen-but-not-ship and the storytelling method and the different feel somehow. But it SHOULD eat fandom it's so amazing.

*nods* I had to go back and re-read sections because I knew I wasn't taking it all in the first time or two but it was also so brilliant and real and brittle.

paian is definitely fantastic.

PALIMPSEST!!!1

Yes, I used a 1. It's that horrendously amazing. I could NOT stop reading it, got to the end, and just about fell over right then and there. The characters slowly winding back to that one moment.

Gah!

Also, that rec for the Sam and Daniel breakfast--"Mostly Harmless"--is awesome!

Oh, well worth a 1. Possibly even an 11. Or eleventy.

"horrendously amazing" is, I think, the perfect description. Because yes. It's like chasing a string trying to find where the cat hid the ball of yarn.

Yay Sam and Daniel eating breakfast!

I just remember going along, and being confused, and then everything slowly, slowly clicking together until you realized that essentially, you were seeing the bomb put itself back together, and are left with the awful realization that these are the characters you LOVE, and that they are just about to be torn completely apart. And there's nothing you can do about it.

(You can tell it made quite the impression on me. I remember going off on it with people who 1) didn't watch stargate and 2) didn't know what fanfic really was.)

Ooh, I like the "seeing the bomb put itself back together" analogy a lot!
Because yes, there was the confused and at first there was rereading and then it all picked up like a crescendo and suddenly you could see all the strings and you couldn't follow them to their core fast enough.

(hee)

That first/last scene with Lotus and Quinta? I read that at least twice. *shivers*
