Give Up the Love: A Chloe/Allison Picspam and Holy Freewrite Batman An Essay for the Countdown!

With all the fannish squeeing over the upcoming season, I'm glad to see a few other characters besides Lex get their due (although Lex IS awesome). But where is the Chloe!Love???

I'm grateful that AlMiles don't realize what a beauty Allison Mack is, because the extreme fetishization of Kristin is gross. I'm liking her better thanks to my lovely fliends, who are helping ease the trauma of the past few seasons (thank Zod for SV fan supplement). But the fetishization is disgusting and it degrades the character and the actress. I feel dumber when they do it. I'm glad they don't do that with Allison, but I wish the writers could think of the girls outside of the "Let's Get Them In the Shower!" mode. There are other story lines... Chloe is an interesting character, and while I don't want her overexplored to the point of boringness, more focus on her activities outside of being Clark's supergirl would really be a refreshing change.

I really don't need her to be possessed multiple times just to get her into leather. Please.

Chloe, excepting the incident as darth!Chloe when she succumbs to Lionel, is a loyal devoted friend. She's funny and smart from the very beginning, and Allison plays her well. I think of the younger cast, she nailed her character down first (Rosey has done a lot of tweaking purposefully. Lex is very open in the pilot.). It's difficult to think of favorite Chloe moments because she is consistently funny, consistently awesome. She of the obscure references, as Clark told Ryan. She can be selfless, and she's damn talented. As a character, she sort of serves as Willow or Hermione, if you wanted to compare. It's always good to have a character who can hack the intraweb, and she could do this from Season One. Maybe some say she's too talented for her age. Probably. Well... fifteen year olds don't manage businesses all by their lonesome. In Smallville and Metropolis, kids have to grow up fast. Chloe learned hacking somehow before she turned fifteen lost her virginity during her internship at about sixteen and moves very independently of her father.

She can also be frustrating. Because she believes people will leave her, she holds back her feelings for Clark, even though they never go away. She has a hard time moving on. And she can be a doormat. People use her as a sidekick and tear down her Wall of Weird. She gets scared. One of the most beautiful acting moments for Chloe is when she's put in a frightening situation. Allison carries the conflicting emotions skillfully. She's afraid of getting hurt. She doesn't blow off getting kidnapped easily (although Lana gets attacked with quite a bit more frequency), but she can be brave. She can stand up to her attacker, and she has stood up to Lionel although he clearly scared the piss out of her in Season Three. She mouths off to him. She tries to help Lex catch him. Amusingly, this doesn't seem to be a case of putting herself on the line because it's the right thing to do and Lionel belongs in jail. She does it because she sees Lex hurting, and when he tells her he needs his father to love him, she caves. It's hard to parse why she and Lex don't get along (partially the fault of the writers), but when she sees someone close to her needing her, it's hard for her to say no. That can be a good trait or a bad one. The result is often her covering for Clark when he's perfectly capable of handling things himself!

Some people were early Lexanaers. I was an early Chlexer. Of course, Clex was my favorite ship, but from all of her early scenes with Lex, I couldn't help but notice a similarity in the characters. They both have a drive to know, to find out, to leave no stone unturned. This gets them both in trouble, especially with Clark, who has been... blessed with having two friends who have so little concept of boundaries. They both have pain they try to hide. They both have crazy!mom drama (although they don't know this about one another). They both have a hero-fetish! They could either bond like girlfriends over their love of heros or fight like cats. They both give everything of themselves for a friend... to their detriment. Chloe and Lex both need to put their foot down with Clark and Lana for taking advantage. Neither of them will ever do it, most likely (although Lex will try to steal Clark's girlfriend and hurt the people around him). I've said elsewhere, they'll never be together because they might be good for each other. At least Chloe is actively seeking mental help, while Lex faces the concept of his mental breakdowns with fear.

You know what's hot? Chloe and Lex going at it in a fight. Snarkorama. Except Chloe really cannot outsnark Lex, who is the master of snarkfu. They engage on such an intense and sometimes intellectual level, it's hard for me not to melt when they fight in Season Three. In Five when they fight, he pwns her pretty quickly, and I detected a lesbian remark underneath what he said about Lana. Bad Lex!

I'm very interested in how she's handling the reality of having a mother in an institution. Telling Clark that her mother is clinically insane was a step, but he wasn't much help. He's always spouting off about how you have a choice not to be like your parents. This is a hereditary mental disease. Chloe doesn't get a choice. She could get all the psychological councelling in the world and still end up as one of the many residents of Belle Reve. This is a "women in our family" thing, and that has to be pervading her life, unless she's just ignoring it. That she has a shrink tells me that she isn't. Facing the reality that someday you might cease to be you, that you will lose your grip on reality, and you have no power over it, is much more frightening than the freaks they have to deal with every week.

Let's have less loft scenes and more of that. More character-driven stories all around!

Early Chloe wtfery. Say WHAT Pete? Clana? EW!!

I'm not buying sex toys for you and Lex anymore. :(

The curly hair is cute.

Another Willow comparison is the funky wardrobe. I love it.

She looks so vulnerable.

She said she didn't mind being cut out of the promo shots this season because she's an actress, not a model. Too bad, because she does some great shots.

Be powerful, babygirl!!

I do plan on doing other manips with Lex. Maaaaybe Lana if they write her better this season.

I really wish I had time to do an exhaustive picquote spam. But I honestly don't have the time to look up quotes. Envision them in your head. And if you want to post your Chloe pics in this thread, or links to other fannish posts or websites regarding Chloe or Allison, bring 'em. Chloe needs a hug.
