I saw 'Milk' and 'The Wrestler' this week. Both excellent and both very deserved Oscar nominations for Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke. I think that perhaps I liked 'The Wrestler' better though - if you've ever seen the wrestling documentary 'Beyond the Mat' you'll know that the film isn't too far from fact for some ex-wrestlers!
I really want to go see Milk this weekend. I was going to go today but it's almost too late to get the matinee price. :p Maybe tomorrow! The Wrestler is definitely next on my list. I've heard many good things about it. I have seen Beyond the Mat. Isn't that the one where Jake the Snake is smoking crack? Man that was a bummer.
Yeah, that's the one. I have to wonder if 'The Wrestler' took any inspiration from it, or whether that is just the way most ex-wrestlers tend to end up and so it was a good story! Mickey Rourke was absolutely fantastic. The wrestling scenes are brutal, definitely up there with 'Raging Bull' in the realism stakes.
I saw Slumdog last night! I really liked it. I love the song at the end. All the music really...The guy who played the oldest Jamal, Dev Patel, was on a show that I used to watch on BBC America, so he already had a special place in my heart. And the kids that played the orphans were beautiful; they broke my heart in half! ugh! So, yea, I liked it. I've always liked Danny Boyle movies. :)
This post talking about working in The Industry really inspires me to go after my dream. (Check out my last post. http://lunaysol.livejournal.com/134697.html) I am making plans to move to LA after I graduate!! Any advice? :D
