Heads up

For those feeling a bit helpless and depressed about the Haiti eathquake, there's a really good page here on Just Giving that lists tons of different ways you can donate to relevant charities.

Thanks Abi - that's a wonderful resource. It's hard to know where to start, sometimes.

Thanks for linking to that, Abi. I actually think that's a really incomplete list and would encourage people in the UK to go straight to the DEC pages (http://www.dec.org.uk - the umbrella organisation for UK emergency/post emergency relief charities) or other humanitarian organisations such as the Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org.uk/emergencysite) or MSF (http://www.msf.org.uk/haiti_update_surgery_started_20100115.news) to donate immediately. Just Giving takes a commission payment before sending funds to a charity - it's much better to donate directly.

thanks Terrie - it's worth hearing it from someone who knows what they're talking about! I suppose I picked out that page because it had a lot of options including the 'big' charities I was aware of, even if they had been set up by individuals.

I have to admit I didn't realise that Just Giving took a commission. That's quite a shame.
