[Justin is situated in what appears to be, from the limited view the camera offers, a library. (Were the camera to pan out, it would become clear that this is indeed his corner of the forensics laboratory.) It's quiet here--a stark contrast to the noise outside. Justin looks contemplative.]

You're all still here.

You're dead. How'd you get a girlfriend?

You don't really have photos, do you?

I think you're bluffing.

...Where are you?

Why to which?

Because you always bluff and I want to see you.

I've been by the Merry-go-Round. I don't really know where anything is.

[Which is to say, come find me if you want to. Not that he cares. Obviously.]

I can find you. There's only one carousel in the City.

[And yeah, he's finding you, Richard. A part of him would really like to punch Richard in the face--repeatedly--but mostly, he just wants to see a Richard that's not mashed on the rocks or a figment of his imagination. It'd be a lot easier if Justin could just hate him properly.]

I am off to bed! But BACKTAGS. forever! and ever. yesss. derangetheworld February 16 2010, 07:25:08 UTC
[He's hard to miss, with the same red jacket and bored look as ever. Disinterestedly poking at his communicator, a City loaner that'll be gone as soon as he is, Richard doesn't seem excited about the impending reunion with his partner in crime.

He is, of course; as conflicted as Justin in his own way, vengeful and jealous and exceedingly pleased that even after all this time, he clearly has enough of a hold on the other boy to drag him out into the streets.]

[Justin would, of course, deny that Richard has any hold on him whatsoever. He has free will and he's doing this because he wants to. (To a degree, though, Justin knows that he's not fooling anyone, least of all himself.)

Richard stands out in the way that only Richard can. Justin takes a moment to steel his nerves. This will almost inevitably be a disaster, but turning around now is an impossibility.]

Richard.

[For his part, Justin hasn't changed outwardly. He's wearing the same button-up shirts and the same look of indifference as ever (and the latter, as it ever was, is as much an act as Richard's apparent disinterest).]

[He looks up, as though he hadn't noticed Justin coming until just then, and flashes a sharp little grin.]

Well, lookit you.

[He doesn't stand immediately, leaning and stretching to slip the comm into a pocket of his jeans. He's leisurely, as though they've got all the time in the world to catch up-- like they've just met after classes, off to set the world aflame. It's almost too normal, and he takes pains to be at ease. To remind Justin that even if he can change, he can't escape.

Composed, he hops to his feet and closes the difference between them. You're getting a mildly creepy hug, Justin, because Richard still thinks he owns you. Possession and affection are almost the same thing, right?]

[This qualifies as surreal. Justin had almost expected Richard to be different, if only subtly; after all, it's been over a year. But no. Why would Richard change?]

And you. You look better than you did the last time I saw you.

[The hug is definitely creepy--moreso than it might have been before. It's odd how difficult it is to see how destructive a relationship is when you're in it; time away--time to think--has done wonders. Still, Justin doesn't pull away. Richard is his friend (other half? enemy?), even if he's a double-crossing bastard.

He won't admit it, but Justin's glad to see Richard. He wants to hit him, yes, but it's still nice to see him.]

[There's no reason for him to change; he doesn't think there's anything wrong with him, with what he did. His ego doesn't allow for the possibility of regret, and all the fuckups and their consequences haven't changed that.]

Yeah, well. What'd you expect?

[He dismisses that, pulling away after a moment to look Justin in the eye, sizing him up in some inexplicable fashion. For all his talk, he looks the same as ever.]

That... got long. Sorry! absinthe_eyed February 17 2010, 14:26:54 UTC
I don't know.

[It's an honest answer. Had Justin expected Richard to look different somehow? Act different? Had he really thought that everything that had happened near the end--the betrayal, the shooting, the reckless gunfight with Cassie--might have had an impact on Richard's personality ( ... )

don't apologize. ilu <3 derangetheworld February 18 2010, 01:20:38 UTC
[He rolls his eyes, in part because he doesn't have a good answer. When they'd hatched their schemes, he'd considered them invulnerable; protected by the perfect fusion of Justin's intellect and his own force of will, each supplying what the other lacked. If there was ever one point of harmony in their tumultuous and unhealthy relationship perhaps it had been that-- the sense of being perfectly complementary. He's grasping at that now, trying to warp things enough to fit them back together. And it isn't going well. Something in Justin's expression tells him he's been outgrown, and Richard doesn't like it one bit. The question's just an attempt to further divide them, and so he tries to sidestep it.]

Do we have to talk about that shit?

[After all, his tone suggests, we're friends, right? In spite of all of it, the history of manipulation and betrayal. The funny thing is, he means it; nothing that's happened has shaken his belief that they're connected. After all, in Richard's eyes, he's not the only one who's done something ( ... )
