Sure, you could say they have their reasons or they can try to justify it by saying that they didn't believe it was evil. But that doesn't change the fact that it is. When you know that someone is suffering and you don't care because you're accomplishing your goal, that's evil.

It's metaphor... symbolism. The unpinning philosophical ideas mean everything, but the flags and the game itself have no inherent meaning in and of themselves. I think.
