Did I not introduce you to Imogen Heap when we were roommates? Jeez, I suck. My brother introduced me to Frou Frou years ago and when they broke up, Imogen went out on her own.
I knew I'd heard that voice before! I kept thinking, when I listened to her music, "wasn't she in the Garden State soundtrack?" but I couldn't find her name. But Frou Frou WAS on the soundtrack. Ah hah.
I didn't like Frou Frou too much, but I like Imogen.
Imogen has actually always been a solo artist. She released an album in the late 90's called I, Megaphone. It was very good, but not widely released.
She and a producer, Guy Sigsworth, teamed up (and by team up I mean he really just produced the album while she did most of the writing, singing, and performing) to become Frou Frou...but they never said they were a group as they never played live together. Occasionally Imogen will perform some of Frou Frou's songs, but they havent officially been together or "broken up" as you say.
She then released Speak for Yourself, alone, as a solo artist. She also worked on the album and produced it alone.

She is truly an original artist.
