If the Israelis can handle it, why not the Americans?

The United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Israel all allow openly gay people to serve in their militaries. They somehow do this without separate heterosexual and homosexual bunks (as I've heard some people suggest would be required if such a policy was adopted in the U.S.). because of the pervasive Christian attitude that's taking over the military. As a veteran (1979-1984) and a Jew, I found the anti-Jewish attitude almost worn as a badge of courage (in that if I wanted to go to services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, I had to specifically request them and hope for the best, or, when I applied to be the base Jewish lay leader, the chief chaplain sat on my application for six months). As a gay man in the military (I started coming out while to myself in the service), that was more insidious.
