My name is Kelly and I'm a 23 year old Americorps member. My brother and his fiancee are getting married in Maui on October 15th (this fall!). I wasn't allowed to rent a car till I turned 25. I guess those are the rules. Taxi and bus are around though. I'd suggest bed and breakfasts or condos over the resort hotels.

Or even a weird craigslist short term rental. I saw one today on kauai for 400 for the entire month!

You can rent a car when you're under 25 but you'll have to pay a daily underage driver fee. I think it's usually around $25. Of course you should check with whatever company you plan on renting from since these things vary, but generally that's the deal, especially with the big national companies (Enterprise, Dollar, Avis, etc). I'm also 23 and I've rented cars several times, both on the mainland and when I lived in Hawaii. It sucks having to pay that extra fee, but if you have to then you have to!
