Title: Dust to Dust
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Don't own them; just borrowing.
Summary: There's one grave she's never been to.
Spoilers: Through 4.01. Information beyond what was confirmed in the premiere is merely speculation; I am unspoiled for future episodes.
Note: I wanted this to be longer, but the muse said, "drabble me!" So, 100 words. Many thanks to
elliotsmelliot for this lovely little plot bunny and for allowing me to run with it after her wonderful drabble “Hidden Treasure.”
Kate removes herself from the small group waiting on the beach (“there's only room for six,” and who hadn't even been up to them). Jack calls after her (there's not much time), but she keeps walking.
They'd buried their dead here. Too many. She kneels down and picks up a stick to help her dig a small hole. (There's one grave she's never been to.) She reaches into her pocket, draws out the toy plane. “I'm sorry,” she whispers. Drops it, gently, into the grave, covers it with sand.
Without its weight, she can walk faster towards the waiting helicopter.
