I was completely unspoiled the first time I watched this scene. My friend insisted on being on instant messenger watching it in sync with me.

Turns out she wanted my reaction. Which wound up being "Well, this is pretty ship-- OH MY GOD!"

This was completely fresh for me too. Did not know it was coming. I so love how it was shot. I feel like I never saw close-ups before BSG. I just adore how they show us their faces: wrinkles, moles, and all. Especially the wrinkles! And these actors do such beautiful, subtle things with their faces; it is such a treat to get to see all the nuances.

I agree that the two actors are a big part of why this works so incredibly well. Their chemistry is evident and I think that is true with most great screen couples. There has to be a connection between them on some level to make the on screen thing so palpable.

There is something about MM's wrinkles that really make that scene work for me. Yet her overlong bangs give her a girlish quality. I'd say she never looked younger, if that makes sense.

And I think post-kiss is the first time we see Bill's Toothy Grin(tm)?
