Hiya, folks, about_faces here! It's with great pleasure that I introduce today's guest review, courtesy of long-time commenter and seasoned critic, abqreviews! I'll warn you, this is a long one, filled with TONS of photos, but I promise you that all of it is very, very worth your while. I loved this post, especially since virtually all of it was news even to a great ( Read more... )

Woo, first comment!

Irv Novick does his best Simon & Kirby impressionHoly crap, I don’t know what’s more striking: the utter shamelessness of that ripoff, or the fact that Irv Novick was drawing comics even into the Golden Age! Which superhero is that? It looks almost like the new costume for the Sandman, only there’s not enough lavender and Jack Kirby isn’t drawing it ( ... )

Woo, second comment, same commenter, comin' atcha from my other account!

Also, if anyone else is noticing all of these "" things, I have no idea what they are. I think they're what LJ's HTML took as the images I tried and failed to copy-paste from abqreviews' original .doc format, and while I manually added all of the images myself, I can't get rid of the things. They show up on my Firefox, but weirdly, not on my Safari. So I dunno. I guess we just deal with 'em?

And here I am back on Safari, and the weird logo things I posted in the comment above aren't even showing up for me! I guess many of you won't even see a problem, depending on what browser you use.

Woo, third comment, back at my main account once more!

I just realized that the Clown is a balding morbid weirdo who had a sexy henchgirl named Lydia. No wonder I have such an affinity for him!

Y'know, I wouldn't mind someone re-telling Dr. Diabole's story, now. I wonder who owns the rights to The Zebra these days?

That's the beauty of it, except for the Green Arrow/Sandman/Angel stuff, it's all in the public domain. Everyone and their mother could publish stories about these characters.

Ah, this was very interesting, as I have a fondness for things 'inspired' by Batman, parodies, rip-offs, homages and the like. One of my favourites, in a sense, was the cartoon Cool McCool, which was made by Bob Kane and included 'Jack in the Box' and 'The Owl' as villains:

Thanks, that was fun. Wow, Kane sure was adamant about Joker and Penguin being his creations especially, wasn't he?

Weirdly, Two-Face is pretty much the only character that he doesn't want to take full credit for creating, even though Bill Finger himself (through other sources) reportedly say that Harvey was the ONLY character who was 100% Kane! Go figure, eh?
