Could it be that they are associated with Ras al Ghul? His followers have always been halfway between a cult and a crime organization, anyway; ninja-monks would seem to be perfectly in character.
Personally, I'd be interested in seeing Two-Face go up against a DA who is genuinely good, thus arousing his jealousy that he's being 'replaced' as Gotham's golden boy. A corrupt lawyer in Gotham City? Gosh, what a twist!
And maybe it's just me, but I'm not all that wild about the way Harvey's inner monologue is being written here. I know that the 'gang boss' side of Two-Face is an important element of his character, but he himself is more than that - he used to be a lawyer; he's an educated man. He shouldn't sound like he was raised on the streets.

I suppose, yeah. Ra's and Harvey would be an... interesting combination. I could see Ra's using Harvey as a way of manipulating Bruce. But damn it, there was something about the idea of it being Ra's that didn't sit well with me, and I can't remember what the hell it was now. Blast.

Well, that's pretty much what they already did with Kate Spencer in that Manhunter feature. Thing is, I don't think that any Harvey Dent who's well-written would have a problem with a genuinely good D.A., since I like the idea introduced in Dark Detective that he still holds just enough respect for who he was that areas like that are off-limits to him. It'd be like when the Punisher faced off against a team of soldiers, whom he refused to kill and had to battle using non-lethal methods. Besides, I would think that Harvey would already ( ... )

Well, OK, so jealousy may not be the thing to go for - there's still potential drama there. Let's say that Harvey respects the new DA enough to not have him on his enemies list - what's he going to do when said DA comes after him? Just surrender? And unlike the Punisher (whose problems are more straightforward and uncomplicated), Two-Face always has an alternate viewpoint - so if Harvey likes the new DA, Two-Face must hate the new DA - or at least take perverse pleasure in opposing his better half's 'don't touch' rules. Hence, we could have a situation where Harvey could go from 'we'll just ride this out' to full-on 'on the warpath' at the flip of a coin. A dirty DA, on the other hand, is satisfying for both sides to wipe out - on the one hand because he's a bad guy, on the other because he's competition - so you don't get that mental conflict.

It reminds me a lot of Alex Maleev artwork from his run on Daredevil by Bendis. I forget, did you read that run? I don't make that comparison as a good thing, because I feel like one of the only people who really dislikes Maleev's art, since it looks like nothing more than traced-over, 'shopped-to-all-hell photos of models.

I immediately thought of Ras al Ghul as well! Maybe he or Talia have some reason for wanting Sterano out of Gotham's legal system.

I'm with surrelname; I don't like the art at all. It's all so bland and expressionless.

Regarding the swearing, I've never thought Harvey is a man to mince his oaths. I've mentioned before that I see him as having grown up as a working class, inner city New Jersey guy who deliberately gentrified himself a little in the early years of his career, but that Two-Face has a stronger NJ accent when he's in control. But all backstory and headcanon aside, he's a murderer and a crime kingpin, he's hardly going to worry about offending someone with bad language - and these panels are all the more ridiculous when you think that it's an internal monologue.

Yeah, as I said above, something about it being Ra's just doesn't seem right, although it'd be a heck of a thing seeing the likes of Ra's and Harvey interact.

I'm still not sure why Tony Daniel is now only exclusively writing for certain comics instead of pulling double-duty like he was three years ago. I mean, if an artist is willing to create his own storylines and material, isn't it regarded as a financial boon for an industry who would rather pay one guy slightly more than pay two guys average working salaries? By my calculations, Tony Daniel is now getting multiple paychecks for thoroughly unremarkable work on two creative fronts. Just who the hell does that man have naked photos of?

And speaking of writers I don't particularly like, I still consider Judd Winick's crowning achievement to be the redefinition of Black Mask in the DCU. Sure, he still had a nasty whiff of torture-porn fantasies about him, but Under The Hood cemented him as a blustery rageaholic control freak who would go to pieces over the slightest threat to his criminal supremacy, and that's how he continues to be portrayed in most fan works. For once, the character actually had something of a core personality, and he ( ... )

I don't agree with the general disliking of Kudranski's art here, although I'm mainly falling for the gorgeous black/steel blue and black/red color schemes. And yes, the main feature in this issue with Sionis Black Mask in a carrying role is as perplexing as it's disappointing. So suddenly all that nonsense with Jeremiah Black Mask DID happen? Sionis Black Mask has mind control powers? When did his face heal? When did the mask become something you can take off and put on lika a baseball cap? I agree about Winick's Black Mask at the very least being an entertaining villain with a personality (his death in such an obscure title as Catwoman still makes me scratch my head, was the backlash from War Games THAT strong?) and if this is the official replacement I'm thoroughly disappointed.

The art's growing on me, too, although I've always been a sucker for Mignola-style tenebrism. If I have a complaint, it's that the human figures seem obviously traced from reference material. Maybe not to Greg "Sexyface" Land extremes, but the influence is definitely there.

Actually, the sword may be accurate. It's a Chinese jian (notice that it's not curved like a katana, and I'm sorry I couldn't remember this last night.)
