The first appearances of DCAU Harvey Dent in B:TAS ("On Leather Wings") and "The Batman Adventures"

Strange as it may seem, many people never even noticed Harvey Dent's first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series! I'm not just talking about people who'd never heard of the character before, but actual Batman fans who should have otherwise recognized the man who would become Two-Face! Seriously! How could this even happen ( Read more... )

You did? Heh, well good, I guess that for the time being, that means I'm still a precocious scamp rather than a precocious scamp who grew into yet another adult fanboy. Huzzah! :D

Y'know, I think you are the very first fan I've met here or anywhere else on LJ who's my own age. Everyone else is either a few years older or younger at least. Was 1983 just a poor crop for comic fans to-be?

Yeah, this is a pretty good depiction of the Joker, all right. Really, say what you will about the 'darling' line being out of place, I'd still say it works, especially combined with the cartoony style (which is actually a little more exaggerated than usual here) and Mistah J's sadistic grin.
What I'd really like to know, though, is just why Harvey is dressed like one of Santa's little helpers in the rooftop scene. I mean, goodness knows I'm no fashion whiz myself, but come ON. Red jacket with big yellow buttons, green pants, pink shirt, pink hanky? What, did he choose his wardrobe by throwing darts at a Hawaiian shirt?
(Oh, and incidentally, man, are you planning to respond to any of the comments to your 'Batman: Terror' post any time soon? I mean, of course this is your site and all, and you're a busy guy and you post a lot of stuff and all of that, so I can understand WHY you haven't, but it was a good post, and there were some interesting responses to it that I'd say merit responses of their own. Just sayin'.)

Eh, maybe he went to the same tailor as all the characters from the Dick Tracy movie. The colors in these early issues certainly are bold enough. Things get a bit more dark and muted as the issues go on, as we'll be seeing in the first proper appearance of Two-Face in TBA.

I dunno - the characters in that were certainly BRIGHT, but they weren't gaudy. They were pretty color-coordinated.
Good to hear, and I hope I didn't come off as impatient or anything.

Oh, you do, but it's hard to do. I barely managed to complete my own collection. Basically, you just need to at least sit and read all of mine. That's an order.

Man, it's strange the memories that come attached to some of these lost shows. I remember one time when my grades were utter shit, and Mom told me that I wouldn't be allowed to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons until my grades were better. Even still, I snuck around and found an old portable black-and-white TV to watch under my thick comforter to watch cartoons. I had gotten away with it, and yet, somehow, I wanted to be caught. When I clearly heard Mom approach, I didn't hide the TV like I could have easily, since, I dunno, I think I thought that I'd be really adorable or some shit caught totally red-handed. Yeah, no. That was a mistake. Mom never hit me, Dave, she never had to (Edd, she once took a ruler to, because that's Edd), but she was as close to that point with me as she'd ever gotten. Because I just HAD to piss her off even more, and put myself in even deeper trouble. And what show, oh, what show was so important that I'd put myself through that? Dog City. I never even LIKED Dog City!Man, I'm gonna come back to this post after ( ... )

Dave, are you like me in that you can clearly remember the taste of every single sugary cereal you had as a kid just by looking at the box? Even the ones you've had only once or twice?
