The Twelve Days of Who's Who! Part Seven: from Signalman to Tweedledee and Tweedledum (1985-1989)

Dec 31, 2011 12:42

I'll be honest with you folks: with one exception, there are no winners in today's batch of villains. Granted, I haven't actually read any stories featuring the majority of these characters, so all I have to go by in this case is their bios and what info I can find online, but I doubt reading their original comics would have helped much ( Read more... )

That is the least Talia-like Talia I've ever seen.

The only thing I could see Sterling Silversmith being good for would be another DC/Marvel Amalgam crossover, where's he fused with Marvel's Silvermane.

Tweedledee & Tweedledum's early appearences are actually kinda interesting for how much the artists knocked themselves out to make their every movement identical, right down to the inking. I'll agree though, no 'good' stories I can think of.

And just to give you something to scream about while I'm off stocking up for ushering in the new year, I've actually wondered if Ten-Eyed Man; a formerly good man who is maimed by criminal and who bases his gimmick off of a number which he puns about, well....Who is to say he wasn't created as a substitute Two-Face before the code allowed the real Two-Face to come back?

What's un-Talia about her?

Sterling Silverman! Perfect! Because if we can't make the character work, by god, we will harvest him for spare parts!

Tweedledee & Tweedledum's early appearences are actually kinda interesting for how much the artists knocked themselves out to make their every movement identical, right down to the inking.

That is pretty cool, especially in the days before copy-pasting. Man, god help us if Brian Michael Bendis ever wrote a Tweedledee and Tweedledum story. The artist would only have to draw one panel for the whole issue.

Who is to say he wasn't created as a substitute Two-Face before the code allowed the real Two-Face to come back?

I imagine that would have been one example of how Batman comics would have looked if it weren't for O'Neil and Adams coming in right around the same time.

i would plow the 90s right out of No-Pants: THE LADY SPELLBINDER (her new name) given the chance.

...it's been a very long time since i've made a crude remark about a comic book character.

john... i think i'm beginning to maybe sort of doubt the no bad characters ideal...

Somehow I just knew she'd appeal to you. I just had an inkling.

Which one broke you? It was Signalman, wasn't it? WASN'T IT?

Why, no. There haven't been any good stories featuring the Tweeds. You know why? Because outside of their intro story and Paul Dini's tales, they haven't starred in any stories, PERIOD ( ... )

That's not entirely true, actually. The Tweeds may not have had very many headlining appearances, but in terms of 'a handful of tales', they do have that. I have a small but growing collection of Batman Archives, and so far they've made something like three or four appearances in them - and all as the main villains, not someone's stooges. (And then, of course, there's that modern story where they formed the Wonderland Gang.)

Oh, I've been doing all right. I've been working on the webshow, still trying to get going with my writing, that sort of stuff. I do comment here every now and again, but there's increasingly little to comment on, you know?

What about you? How have you been?

To be fair to Signalman, he was far from the only non-Riddler riddler back then. Hell, for a while, just about EVERYBODY was doing that - the Joker was sending Batman riddles all the time at a certain point in his career ( ... )

Actually, and this ties into my idea/head cannon over Ras's, but I would picture them both as 'big picture' types.

It's not so much saving the enviroment, although that's important, it's about saving the Earth. Let's say Ra's encountered aliens (as a joke, let's say 1938). His schtick could then be a form of tough love, getting the Earth ready to defend from alien attacks/interact with vistoris without blowing everyone up.

He could see Batman as the perfect heir, not because of his genes but because of his character. In fact, why not have him fixate on the Justice League proper? The finest collection of men and women in one group? What's not to love?

These are of course rambling New Year's thoughts, so it may not make any sense.
