Elseworlds: The Female Two-Faces! Jenna Clark from DARK KNIGHT DYNASTY and Darcy Dent from CATWOMAN

Oct 23, 2011 03:05

Someone (forgive me for forgetting who or where, but the baby stole my brain... was it Yaseen101, maybe?) was wondering if there has ever been a female Two-Face.

Appropriately enough, there have actually been two! Naturally, they both appeared in Elseworlds stories, the first in 1998 and the second in 1999, so I guess there was just something in the air ( Read more... )

THAT SKIRT/STRAPPY THING MAKES NO SENSE IN ANY REALITY-BASED CONTEXT. AGH. WHY YOU DO DIS TO FASHION, COMIC BOOKS?

Ultimately, when it comes to a female Two-Face who's both awesome and hot, I'd prefer the likes of Meagan Marie any day.

Careful there. I hear your fiancé is the murderously jealous Larfleeze "MINE" type. :P

Come now, how often have Balent's original costume designs not made sense? Is there anything logical going on with the girls of Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose?

Well, then she's simply going to have to outdo Ms. Marie in the hot cosplay department. I mean, y'know, at some point when she's not dying of the plague...

Yeah, their anatomy is so twisted that you'd think they were supernaturally possessed or something ...

...yeah, still going to subscribe to Broadsword's digital comics service for a month just to finally get to read this shit.

Also, Jim Balent did a mini-series called Three Little Kittens! Because when you're trying to distance yourself from being the definitive 90's Catwoman artist, it's important to branch out, thematically.

Personally, I actually kinda like most of Balent's artwork - he's got a very stylish sense of design, when he takes a little time to work on it. It's a shame he can't get over the urge to insert gratuitous cheesecake into EVERY SINGLE THING HE DOES. I think if he could just disconnect his libido from his drawing hand for a while, he might actually be able to do some pretty cool stuff ( ... )

I only really liked Balent's work back in the first dozen or so issues of Catwoman (which Henchgirl is currently reviewing, starting with these two posts), which was when he was inked by the great Dick Giordano. But then, Giordano was one of those inkers who made everyone look better. Strange, then, that he was only a serviceable penciler.

Given the rather obsessive focus on feminine beauty in modern-day culture, I can actually buy a beautiful woman going crazy from a disfigured face more than I can a handsome man. It's a double standard, yes, but hey - appropriate, no?

Which, I think, is what gave rise to the Calendar Girl episode of The New Batman Adventures. Wait, you're still catching up with TAS, right? That one's in season four, which is Henchgirl's favorite season and, while it's my least favorite, it's still a pretty damn great episode. She's kind of a mix between Calendar Man, Black Mask, Circe (not the WW villain, the Black Mask character), and female Two-Face here.

I'm presuming that Scarecrone's scarred face while in ( ... )

Well, I can hardly call myself an authority on the man's work - I've only seen bits and pieces of it here and there. Still, out of morbid curiosity I took a look at a few issues of 'Tarot' I found available for download, and to my surprise I actually found myself impressed by the visuals in certain sequences. The actual CONTENT was still pretty porny, mind you, and I certainly wouldn't go so far as to recommend the book (clearly it HAS an audience, but I'll be damned if I know who) but the man can certainly draw when he's not just going 'dur-hur, I likes der boobies'.
Yeah, still catching up - I've heard of the episode, though. Actually, I have a pretty good theoretical knowledge of the series in general, but theory is all it is so far - nothing compares to actual experience.

It's such an obvious idea that's been (usually mis)used so often that I think the writing would really have to bring something clever and thoughtful to say about a virgin/whole Two-Face. There's definitely potential for something great, but I'm pessimistic about most comic writers ever being able to pull it off. For god's sake, REGULAR Two-Face has so much thematic potential that goes unwritten in favor of just having him commit #2-related crimes, spout bad puns, and beat up Robins. Not that I'm complaining about the last one, mind you.

So STUPID it's genius, or so GENIUS it's genius?

ya know, i didn't think i could possible have anymore hatred for the robins as a concept and as characters, and in general, but now i know that there's been a talking monkey robin from the future. I'm so full of hatred that i've gone zen.

Just looked at Meagan Marie's version and she did an amazing job on her cosplay as a female Two-Face, as well as the few other pics of hers that I looked at. Even if it's more of an animated style, I agree that she looks better than the other two above. She took the concept "seriously" and put more thought in to it.

Absolutely. She tweaked it but didn't reinvent the wheel, and it worked beautifully. Now I want to see someone try a more grotesque, horrifying, realistic-scarring take on par with Marie's.
