I love the humility of your Harvey, and how his rise to folk hero is so unexpected to him. I can see Two-Face, when he surfaces, as berating Harvey for just this quiet goodness of spirit - unable to see it as a positive trait and instead sneering at him for what he perceives as weakness.

I love the imge of the people of Gotham crying out for Harvey; it's very cinematic. There's an undertone of foreboding there - they're hanging all their hopes on him rather than believing in themselves and when he falls, as we know he ultimately will, all their belief will crumble.

Anxiously awaiting the next chapter!

Did you know the disclaimer is actually unneccessary? You are not on the hook legally if you skip it.

I sleep now.

Is it? Okee, then! Away it goes! Unless Techie disagrees and wants to fight with you about it. Which is always fun to watch.

Y'know, I've never really understood the whole Loeb/cough drops thing from YO. Is it an implied addiction? A harmless character quirk? A meta commentary on what a faker he is?

Harmless (pointless?) character quirk, I think, but looking back on it, I think it served a narrative purpose. Having Gordon overwhelmed by the smell of eucalyptus really helped give a sense of stifling claustrophobia, combined with Loeb's already-sweaty and puffy depiction.

Welp, I think I read this chapter a while ago and then forgot to comment...

It's interesting that Gotham's citizens don't really support Harvey until he shows his "true face", as it were, but we all know once he breaks down and the acid hits they'll turn on him - and his "bad half" is as legitimate a side of him as Mr Golden Wonderful Attorney. This is a directionless observation, I just like things like that.

The little scene at the end, where Harvey realises that, although he wanted Gotham to stand up for itself, they're relying on him as a crutch, also draws a kind of parallel with Batman, who realised at the start that Gotham couldn't stand up for itself. Even though Harvey's experienced horrible things and seen the helplessness of Gotham during his time in the East End, he still believes in basic human decency and is a very hopeful, optimistic person at heart. I'm not entirely sure what I feel about this. Will ponder ( ... )
