The 90's saw an increased focus on depicted the Rogues Gallery as a whole, particularly in Arkham-centric tales and sometimes also accompanied by the Bat-Family and Allies. This produced some great covers such as this:
Yeah, Jervis' pet monkey--while inexplicable--was something that actually made him his own character, rather than just having him as a crazy brainwasher who dresses and acts like the Carroll character.
Huh. So that's why Shadow of the Bat never had an Underworld Unleashed tie-in...
And speaking of UU, I wonder what Harvey would've traded for if he'd been there. And the coin came bad-side up. Maybe the complete erasure of his good side? The power to keep Doug Moench from writing him ever again? Or the power to flip his coin several miles into the air, and make everything that comes beneath its arc explode via limited telekinesis?
Also, are you going to be posting the DCAU comic covers next?
Not yet! I think I want to do a few more of the 90's-centric specials first, like Strikes Twice and Crime and Punishment. Although, considering that I will be writing about the show very soon, maybe that would be a good idea...
Ah - so THAT'S why I've never been able to find anything out about the Answer. I read a brief profile of him once years and years ago (it may have been in Wizard Magazine), and ever since then, I've been slightly frustrated that I can't track down this guy. I mean, I love his look, and if I recall correctly he has a relatively interesting backstory as well. Oh, well - te sera, sera. If he ever DOES make an actual comics appearance, though, he and the Riddler have GOT to team up against the Question. I mean, is that not a match made in thematic heaven?
I wonder if anyone would be able to dust him off and actually use him? I don't suppose he was/is owned by Alan Grant. He couldn't be. Man, seeing him play off the Riddler really would be great.
Well, if he's been published by DC in any form, he's owned by them, and likely falls into the same category as legions of other obscure villains, like the Eraser or the Dodo Man. Given that he's a bat-villain, however, he stands a slightly better chance than most of seeing the light of day again, so - maybe? It'd be cool, anyway. What I'd really like to know is if it's possible to license these ultra-obscure characters for your own use. I mean, DC has used him ONCE, and clearly has no immediate interest in using him - I wonder if you could say 'hey, look, how much would it cost for me to use this one guy in my own work? I mean, you don't want him, so could I have him?' That would be awesome.

Love all this Gotham Rogues Gallery art.

I never forgot The Answer though, simply because his profile page references David Bowie's "Life On Mars?"
I always liked that Jervis had a pet monkey for no reason. Also for no reason.
