So I have a specific reason for wanting to post the cracktacular Bronze Age epic, "Where Were You the Night Batman Died?" But the problem is, I can't say what the reason is without spoiling the major twist ( Read more... )

Agreed. There is a certain charm in her character that has been carried through all the other versions of Selina.

This was a bizarre story now that I have read it. It certainly doesn't come to close to the sheer mind bender I got from reading that chapter of Drifters with Joan of the Arc and Anastasia Niolaevna Romanova, but it does come close.

Agreed on Harv turning out to be Bruce was kind of lame. If you look deeper you could see how the story sows the seeds that will eventually lead to the Bat-God that we all love to hate.

Also Lex, I may hate that get up but damn if this aren't proof why you are one of the most iconic villains of all this. No other villain could combine genius and narcissism the way you do.

I'd like to point out that this story featured Cluemaster giving Lex shit for his ostentatious outfit. Sorry, Arthur, *you*, of all bloody criminals, don't get to do that.

And look where that got him! He isn't even *in* the comics these days, not even when his daughter is headlining her own title!

Ah, I remember this story! I, too, thought that it was freaking badass of "Harvey" to tie Riddler to a post and promptly light all the dynamite under it. I'm surprised that Eddie's green tights didn't suddenly turn brown.

And one other thing: I know you've covered the bulk of Two-Face's "No Man's Land" appearances, but there's a couple done-in-one NML stories that also feature him. Do you plan on reviewing those anytime soon?

(The ones I'm talking about are the ones in The Batman Chronicles #17 (the one that came right AFTER the issue featuring the Renee/Harvey story) and No Man's Land Secret Files and Origins (which is really, really weird... but also features an interesting characterization of Two-Face that I don't think has ever been done since.)

And on a related note: I've recently come to the conclusion that NML would probably have been better off without Joker and Harley. NML brought out the mundane side of guys like Harvey, Penguin, Scarecrow, and Ivy, but the Joker HAS no mundane side; he's pretty much all-supervillain, all the time.

And the thought of him leaving Gotham with Riddler, hearing about NML, and lobbying Washington for Gotham's restoration (so he can terrorize it properly) just makes me break out in giggles...

I dunno! Maybe. That weird story was analyzed much better than I could handle by bluefall--I think it was--in a scans_daily post, but I can't find it, so maybe it was back in the old, purged community. I honestly don't have a handle on that story, but I really am intrigued by the use of Harvey there. I'd like to talk about it, but wouldn't know where to start.

I was also considering the story with Harvey's former shrink learning that Bruce is Batman, but I haven't figured out the best way to crop that down to 1/3rd.

Yeah, Joker and Harley felt so tacked on, very much at the behest of editorial's plan. Don't know how much Rucka and company really had to say in the construction of that story, but their use felt so obligatory.

If that was batman the whole time? Where's the REAL Two-Face?
