How Do You Test Gender?

Of course it must be tough on the person in question, whom I gather has never known herself to be anything but female. But it's sort of exciting to see sex/gender binaries questioned in mainstream media!

This athlete has been treated really badly.

In a sense it is good that the topic of gender identity has been aired in the media. However this should not have been at the expense of a person’s dignity, and certainly not to provide cheap headlines for the tabloids.

Agree with fuzzywombat103 - those comments are really gross.

To be frank, I'm not sure how to ethically approach this issue. Competitive sports are a grey area. As long as there exist two obvious sexes with obvious physical differences, I don't know how to handle it gracefully.

Except to wait until the single-sex utopia brought by genetic engineering or something.
