How'd you secure it - drill into the bat?

Never mind - those bolts go all the way through don't they? Hence the spiral stud progression.

Looks like you would have been able to do that without cutting the bat though. Unless there are bolts on the inside as well?

I just wonder how much beating that aluminum bat can take before coming apart now. Maybe if the cuts were welded/sottered shut it would be stronger.

yeah, I bought a few feet of 1/2" threaded rod, cause otherwise there'd be less studs, and the bat isn't that thick, so threading holes into it wouldn't last very long. I don't know how easy it would be to weld aluminum and steel together, but I'm guessing it's fairly difficult, what with drastically different melting points and all.

Besides, if I just torque down the nuts after I loc-tite them, I think they'll be fine, and there's enough even pressure with all the bbolts going around to keep the head of the bat together I think. I would have preffered to just chop the rod with large bolt cutters to get a slight wedge shape to the ends, but... we don't have one. Ithink it'll stll do the job though. And the threaded rod going all the way through adds some needed weight for assured smashingness.

It aonly takes about two hours to do once you have the materials, so it's highly feasable for one of those "I'm trapped in the hardware and sporting goods store and surrounded by zombies!" movies.

Right, but what I meant was welding the aluminum back together. 'Cause it looks like you cut slits in the bat to get the threaded rod in. Oh. Unless those are sharpie lines?

And yeah, wedged ends for the bolts would have been better, but oh well, it'll work.

So, were you just inspired when you saw the old, unsued bat in the shed or something? :)

P.S. If you want a real zombie challenge, don't get trapped in a hardware/sporting goods store. Get trapped in something like a Victoria's Secret or a restaurant and gear up in there. You might have a chance in a restaurant, but that's mostly slashing weapons, and fire is tricky.

I didn't realize there was such a big zombie problem in New Milford. I bet if you went into business making/selling them you'd make a killing. ;-)
