I've been watching the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films which someone has uploaded to YouTube in HD. I've seen them many times over many decades and I swear they get better with each viewing. Last night I watched Dressed to Kill, googled Patricia Morison, as one does with actors in old films, and found out that she's still alive at 101. This ( Read more... )

I like most of the Rathbone Holmes movies (and they always make me feel nostalgic), but sometimes I have to squint and look away because Nigel Bruce's Watson gives me such bad second-hand embarrassment.

I used to feel that way about his Watson but I've changed my mind. Or perhaps I'm just worn out with the new takes on Watson.

I watched a video from her 101st birthday celebration this year and she was exactly the same. Maybe that's what happens when you never marry. ;~)

This person has uploaded them in 720p. Good enough quality to watch on a TV. They make for cosy winter viewing.

I love the one where they're supposed to be in Canada (The Scarlet Claw) and everyone has an English accent, a funny cap, and wears plaid.
