I love B movies and will watch almost anything but Chinatown After Dark (1931) is bad bad bad. Given the amount of talent in Hollywood at the time it was something of an achievement to cast so many character actors incapable of delivering a line that wasn't stilted - with the possible exception of Billy Gilbert who had several opportunities to do Read more... )

It's hard to find an old movie that's bad. B movies and serials had such an economy of story-telling and such a wealth of capable character actors that they're almost always watchable (and over with in 60 minutes or so). I can tolerate a wooden hero. Movies in recent decades... I wish I could say the same of them but it's truly an abyss out there.

Glad you steered me away from this, because I also love B movies. Usually one of my favorite things is the costuming, but in your pics above I find them too big and boxy.

It's hard to avoid boxy in the mid-40s. You won't find boxy in Chinatown After Dark so you could try that one.
