Sir Ian Blair, the London Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said last Monday that London is safe enough to leave your doors unlocked. As a novelty for me, I left my door unlocked last night as I slept. I awoke this morning to someone knocking at my doors at 8:30 am. I thought no answering for you, sleep time is now. if it makes you feel any better, the only day i looked my door the entire time i lived on I street was on Halloween or when we went on long trips. Oh and even when we were on the trips we left the window on the ground story open. Growing up, i wondered why people even locked their doors, ive met a bunch who lock them when they are home.. which seems totally paranoid to me eh but to each their own. anyways got to return to belfast life... thats right northern ireland! come and visit. toodles pips..

With all those unlocked doors and open windows, did you ever have anything happen? People coming in? Did you leave lights on?

Pfff, I lock the door to my bedroom.

It's not that I don't trust my dormmates. It's just that I don't want to be wrong about them.

And.

As the oldest one here. There mgiht be a suspicion that I have more money than they do and thus have nicer things...or at least mroe interesting things than they...or not.

Remember those posts I wrote a long time ago about people testing my car door to see if if it's unlocked?

I've never heard of someone actually physically breaking into a car to steal somehting. It has always been through an unlocked door..

You're alive!

Cars, yes, I would always lock the doors to my car. That is a considerably different situation. But my apartment? A person walking around trying apartment doors would be a lot more conspicuous than someone trying car doors. To the point where I have doubts it really happens at a common rate.
