I almost forgot

Mother always said to boil cold water. Do even start with your "'cold water boils faster' is a myth" argument, because that's not why. Warm water is heated and then sits in your pipes and becomes stale, whereas cold water is fresher. Also, heated water leaches metal as it travels through the pipes.

Discuss.

pipe minerals might make your water taste worse, but, meh, they might be a little good for you.

Also, I'd like to know how much difference it actually makes to boil cold water vs hot water. I mean conducting a large all-day experiment in which we boil hot water, cold water and crystal geyser (just for fun!) and then, drink these waters once they've cold (blind taste-tests), use them for pasta and have pasta taste tests, etc.

This will have to happen over spring break.

Then a day of your Spring Break will be dedicated to the boiling of water and the drinking of tea and the eating of pasta.

Why would anyone want to BOIL WATER?

You have an excellent point. But the real question is, when you filled that pot of water, was it with cold or hot water?

Hot water, of course! Hot water boils sooner. All this "freshness" crap is for people who don't eat canned beans straight out of the can with a fork (in other words, I am not going to care how "fresh" my water is).
