Mistletoe most certainly does. There's something of an art to encouraging another to step under it with oneself. And sometimes the embarrassment is only feigned.

Indeed. I can understand that such may be an effective means of gauging another's feelings for one's self.

It may also be an effective means of getting... certain people to loosen up a little.
