It’s dark inside the TARDIS. Only the emergency lights are on, which means she still has time before the other Rose and the Doctor come back.

“Hide somewhere, so that the younger you don’t see you. It’s better that I haven’t seen you before you get back to Jackie’s either. I can hide memories, but not shocks. Having two Roses and my baby on the TARDIS in flight is definitely a huge shock. So hide. The TARDIS should help you. I think that when the other me comes back from the flat to move the ship,.. that’ll be your move.”

Rose plays his instructions in her head. Where to go? The TARDIS is huge, and as far as she remembers she only went to her room on that flight, but still. What if Cathie cries? She definitely needs a room with a bed. And a bathroom. She realizes she didn’t pack any food or drink. She sighs and moves slowly to the kitchen to fetch something to help her through these couple of hours of waiting. Having done that she still has no idea where to go. Cautiously she walks through the semi-darkness of the ship’s corridors to the so-called sleeping quarters. She remembers there were a few spare rooms there. But then… it’s too close to her own bedroom. The younger Rose would hear every noise her child makes. Not an option then. She pauses at the staircase. This level is out of bounds. The lower one has a wardrobe. The Doctor definitely changed during the trip so he’ll go there. The only one left is the upper one. She’s never been there before. Rose knows the Doctor’s quarters are on that level. He never spent much time there though. She doesn’t remember him going there on this short trip so it could probably be okay in the end. She sighs and starts to climb the spiral stairs. When she reaches the next level she is surprised to see the stairs continue it’s way up. She considers going there and even makes a few steps, when it shakes slightly. Not strong enough to bring her down, but enough to make her stop. “The TARDIS should help you” Rose remembers the words.

“Okay, I get it. Thank you,” she mutters turning to the long corridor. There aren’t many doors there. Not as much as on other levels she’s been to. They’re all locked. She turns along the corridor to find some more doors. Her back aches now and Cathie is about to stir. Suddenly the lights go on and with horror she realizes that the Doctor is back. Rose hurries down the corridor to the only door that seems to be ajar. She gets inside and shuts it behind her.

The room is simple. A small bed, a huge table covered in books, a simple chair next to it. The room is used, but its owner doesn’t seem to spend much time here. Rose remembers the Doctor doesn’t need sleep. Not as much as humans do at least. She’s always wondered what he was doing while she was asleep. Rose has never though that the TARDIS needed as much tinkering as he said she did. Rose wonders if this was his room. It pretty much seems to be. She notices a wardrobe and moves curiously to look inside. There are a few shirts and ties and a long row of Converse of different color. She smirks. This really is his room then. She takes her backpack off at last and stretches to feel her shoulders again. Then she lays the still sleeping baby on the bed and coveres her with a light blanket. Rose kisses her daughter’s forehead and moves to drink some tea she brought from the kitchen.

‘At this moment,’ she thinks, ‘Dad is running away from me. Or maybe it’s already Mickey saying his goodbye.’ How has things changed. This Pete refuses to see her as his daughter, he is miserable. He’s just lost his wife. No matter that he’s moved from the mansion, he still loves her. He’s broken. And in only 3 years he’ll meet her Jackie and despite all reason and doubt he will be happy again. He won’t run from Rose. He’ll actually save her from the void. He’ll drive her to Norway and hold her through the heartbreak. He’ll make it possible for her to go back and he’ll be there to help through the mess with her Doctor. He’ll be there for her after the accident. Her Dad will be there to love her and say goodbye to her. He will be there for her mum. Last time the thought of her mum living on her own kept her sane through the rejection by Pete. This time, Jackie was not alone. She had a family she’s never thought she’d be able to have after her first Pete died. This time, Rose knew, Jackie will cope.

Rose was pulled from her musings by a faint sound of steps in the corridor. She grabbed the baby and rushed to what she thought was an en-suit. She was just in time to shut the door behind her when the other door opened and someone hurriedly walked into the room.
