I always carry a small notebook to jot down bits of dialog and ideas because that happens to me ALL THE TIME. What I hate is when I can't read the bloody notes LOL.

Oh, I have notebooks in my car and work bag, and always have scraps of paper in my purse, but I had nothing, nothing! with me on the river but my darn unreliable brain!

Honey, I can write the stuff and later let my husband read it, but there's no way I'm saying dirty Spike talk out loud while floating down the river with actual people, lol!

Besides, we left the phone in the car!

However . . . I'm totally using that idea next time inspiration strikes and I'm nowhere near a writing tool!

One time, I had an idea...in like the middle of the night, so I called my cellphone, and talked in my Spike voice so I wouldn't forget the awesome dialogue.

Yeah, I'm one of those creepy writers :P

I did a voice recording into my MP3 player while driving once for the very same reason. I've also used my digital camera in the same setting and wound up with some lovely video of my thighs while I recorded myself speaking whatever brilliant idea I'd come up with.
