I'm not sure, but I think this is actually a subversive film designed to get westerners kicked out of sushi bars. But, of course, it could be how the Japanese actually behave while eating sushi.

OK, I have heard that Japanese eat sushi with their fingers. That's about it. I'm willing to bet that some things are pure fiction mixed with enough factoids to make it confusing.

Alton Brown mentioned that on Good Eats, but I wasn't sure if I believed him.
