[One-shot] Another Chance

Sep 12, 2010 15:21

So, this past week I was looking back at my old fanfictions that I wrote over the past year. It's amazing how I wrote so many stories! That's probably one of the reasons why I can't think of any more cute and sweet one-shots and chaptered fanfics. Also, I was completely amazed by how much support I've had over the past year. There are some readers that still read my stories ever since I started to post up my fanfics on my LiveJournal. I'm really blessed and thankful for everyone's support and hopefully, my fanfics will inspire people.

As I was reading my one-shots, My Guardian Angel, I began to think of a continuation for the one-shot. I hardly do continuations to my one-shots, but I felt like this one-shot needed something more to it. (I hated how I just ended the story.. Also people were looking forward to a sequel.) So, here is a continuation/sequel to the one-shot. Hopefully you will enjoy it and I will post up another chapter of The Melody In My Heart as well. I will be busy through-out the week but I'll try my hardest to post up the chapters weekly.

Another Chance

“Reiko-chan, you seem really happy today. Why is that?” Another angel asked me. I looked at her and smiled. “It’s because it’s his birthday today.”

My name is Takashima Reiko and it has been 5 years since I’ve become an angel. It’s great to be an angel but at the same time, I found my true love that is a human still on earth.

5 years ago, I was a guardian angel to man named Ohno Satoshi. Even though I can’t be with him, I still love him until this day.

I walked over to a looking glass. This looking glass can be used to see everything on earth. Many angels use this looking glass to see how their loved ones are doing. I use this looking glass to see how Ohno is doing.

“What’s so special about him?” I looked beside me to see another angel, Keito asking me. He became an angel at the same time as me.

I smiled and said. “He was my first love. I fell in love with him while I was watching over him.” Keito slowly nodded his head and crossed his arms. “Sou ka. You know having a relationship between an angel and a human is forbidden.”

I sadly nodded my head and bit my lip. Then I looked at Keito as I turned off the looking glass. “I know. That’s why I’m always going to watch over him in the clouds. I bet he doesn’t remember me.” I said as I tried to laugh.

I looked the other way and began to remember that day when I went into his dream. That was the greatest moment in my life. I wish I could do it again but He made an exception for me. At least I can still treasure that moment in my heart. It’s a give-and-take situation.

“Takashima Reiko.” I heard a deep and loud voice. I looked up to see everyone bowing their heads. It was Him.

“I see you’re still attached to that person I assigned to you a few years ago…” He said to me. I nodded my head and then I bowed my head. “Hai. Everyday, I try to resist my attraction for him but it’s too difficult for me. I’m in love with him.” Then I heard some gasping and whispering coming from the other angels.

He crossed his arms and sighed. “What am I going to do with you, Reiko…” He muttered as he shook his head. I lowered my head and I felt hurt and disappointed with myself. He gave me a chance to actually talk to him. He made an exception for me and yet, I still want to be with Ohno. Even though I’m breaking the rules, I can’t stray away from my heart.

“Walk with me, Reiko. I need to discuss something with you.” He said and everyone looked at him with surprised expressions. I widened my eyes and hastily walked to his side. Then we started to walk away from the other angels.

“Reiko, do you know why I decided to make you an angel?” He asked me. I looked at him and shook my head. Then He chuckled and smiled at me. “Because you have a good heart. That’s why I didn’t leave you in purgatory. You’re pure and innocent.”

I giggled and bowed my head. “Ah, arigato gozaimasu.” He chuckled again and slowly to came to a stop. “Humans should be more like you. Instead, humans have turned to greed, selfishness and lies. That’s why I’ve decided to let you go back down to earth.” I widened my eyes and gasped. Why did He decide this for me? Maybe he was fed up with me…

“Why…?” I muttered. He laughed and said. “Reiko, you will be given a new life but it will be way different from your old life. You will be reincarnated but you will not remember your old life and your life as an angel. I will give you another chance to live again.” I was left speechless.

“It’s your choice. Do you want to live again or do you want to remain as an angel and constantly watch over your love one?”

I bit my lip and started to think. Which one should I choose? I closed my eyes and then I suddenly opened them. I smiled at Him and said. “I’ll become a human.”

“Wise choice.” He nodded his head and started to grin at me. “I hope you will find happiness in your new life.”

My name is Takashima Reiko and I’m 28 years old. My parents are bakers and I work as a pastry chef.

3 months ago, I had gotten myself into a hit-and-run accident. I was in a coma for almost a year and the doctors told my parents that I was brain-dead. Miraculously I woke up one day and the doctors were astonished and shocked about my recovery. Sometimes, I too, wonder what happened to me. Maybe God fulfilled my parent’s wishes.

“Reiko-chan, did you bake those breads yet?” My mother shouted to me. I smiled and nodded my head to her. “They’re cooling down right now.”

As I start to slowly restart my life, I feel like someone else is inside me. Like another me… Is that normal for a person to think like that?

“Welcome!” I shouted as a customer walked in. I smiled and asked. “How can I help you today?” I asked a short man who was wearing a pair of sunglasses; a baseball cap and his chin slowly began to jut out.

“I’m here to pick up a cake.” He said. I smiled and looked at the list of orders we had. I began to scan through a list and I looked up at him. “What’s your name?” I asked with a smile.

“Ohno Satoshi.” He said. I started to look at the list and there was no “Ohno Satoshi” written on the list. I furrowed my eyebrows and slowly turned my head towards him. I started to look at him and he was looking around the store.

I chuckled and noticed that he didn’t understand what I asked. I began to laugh and he looked at me weirdly. “No, I was trying to ask you what name you gave under the order. But thank you for saying your name. My name is Takashima Reiko.”

Ohno slowly took off his sunglasses and looked at me. He blinked his eyes and then he furrowed his eyebrows. “Takashima… Reiko…?” I slowly nodded my head and smiled. “Hai. Ano, the name for your order…?” I asked him.

He shook his head and said. “Ah, it should be under Satoshi.” I scanned the list again and found his name. My father had written his name. He put the wrong kanji for his name. I smirked and rolled my eyes. My father should definitely go to grade school again.

I looked in the refrigerator and found a cake box with his name. I brought it out and opened the cake for him to look at.

“Happy birthday, Okaasan.” I muttered. He looked at me and nodded his head. “Hai. It’s for my mother.” I smiled and closed the box again. “Such a big cake for your mother. Hopefully she will be happy with this cake. My father and I put a lot of effort into it so we can bring smiles on our customers’ faces.”

I wrapped the cake box with a ribbon and handed it to Ohno. He nodded his head and began to leave. “Thank you for dropping by. Have a nice day.” I bowed as he walked out of the shop.

“Ah, he came to pick up his order?” My father came up to me and asked. I nodded my head and smiled. “Yeah, hopefully he will like the cake.”

My father furrowed his eyebrows and I glanced at my father’s strange look. “Wait, do you know him?” He asked me.

I laughed and shook my head. I wore my tall pastry hat and began to walk into the kitchen. “No, but I have a feeling that I met him a long time ago.” I smirked and began to mix a cake batter.

Even though I lost many important memories, I still have feelings for Ohno. Maybe he forgotten about me or found someone else to love but I’ll always do my duty as his guardian angel. Whether I’m on earth or watching in the clouds, I’ll watch over him and hopefully one day, he will notice me again.

“Ah, you forgot to give the complimentary candles to him.” My father muttered as he picked up the package of colorful candles. I widened my eyes and quickly took off my hat. “Otosan, do you mind…?” I started to trail off. I was hoping that my father understood what I was trying to say to him.

“Wakatta. Hurry and catch up to him before you lose him.” My father smiled and handed me the candles. I smiled back and nodded my head.

I walked out of the bakery and looked side to side, I was hoping that Ohno stayed on the same street. I turned to my right again and I noticed someone wearing a baseball cap that looked similar to the one he was wearing.

I began to run, I needed to catch up to him and somehow, I was overwhelm with so much joy. I don’t know why but I wanted to see him again.

“Matte!” I shouted and then I patted him on the shoulder. He turned around and I placed my hands on my thighs. I was panting and trying to catch my breath. “Hm?” He asked me. I looked up at him and smiled.

Then I handed him the package of candles. “Here are your complimentary candles. I forgot to give them to you in the store.” Ohno slowly took the package from my hand and giggled. “Arigato. Now, I don’t have to buy candles.”

I chuckled and bowed my head to him. “Have a nice day.” I lifted my head and turned around. I started to walk away from Ohno. What was this feeling? Somehow in my heart, I wanted to confess to Ohno that I love him and I wanted to see him again. But, the funny thing is that, I just met him today.

“Takashima Reiko-san!” I heard Ohno voice shouting to me. I tossed my head and then I cocked my head. “Hm, what is it?”

Ohno smiled and approached me. “Are you free later today? I will be having a birthday party for my mother. Would you like to come?” I slowly widened my eyes and I was rendered speechless.

“Um, ano, I don’t have a birthday present for your mother…” I muttered. Ohno smiled and then he started to stare at the box that he was holding. “Yes, you do. It’s the cake that you made for my mother.”

I started to laugh and a smile appeared on our faces. I was happy that I met Ohno… again.
