Chapter 17 - Choices to Encounters

Michiko sat in her seat quietly as she came back from puking in the ladies washroom. “Here, you didn’t miss anything. We’re on scene 37.” Yoshioka came to her side quietly and handed her an unopened water bottle. “Arigato.” She whispered back and both of them focused their eyes back on the huge monitor.

They were shooting one of the most important plot lines of the drama: the bed scene. Nino looked a bit nervous but he was trying his best to hide it from the others. While the actress was embarrassed but at the same time, sort of delighted to film such a scene with Nino.

In this particular scene, they both sat on a couch and alone at her apartment. She just broke up with her ex-boyfriend and Nino’s character happened to be in the area when he oversaw the break-up. He was worried that the female character would do something stupid so he took her home. Although she had a feeling that he was going to tease her the entire time, he gave her some comfort during one of her loneliness times of her life.

“Do you know why I hate you?” The actress said her line as soon as the director shouted. “Start!” Nino shook his head and took another sip of his beer. “Why?”

The actress giggled like she was drunk and then scooted over closer to him. “Because you lied to me.” She whispered and suddenly like in many romantic films, the two main protagonists would develop a strong attraction for each other and kiss.

Nino and the actress kissed and somehow Michiko got a weird feeling coming from her heart. She didn’t know why she was feeling this way but she didn’t exactly like the feeling of it.

As Nino and the actress continued the entire scene, Michiko tried her best to endure her sick feeling but once the scene progressed to the bed cut, she tiptoed out of the studio to get some fresh air. Michiko covered her mouth and leaned against the wall as she tried to figure out what was wrong with her.

A few minutes later, Yoshioka opened the door to see her looking pale. With a worried look, she slowly walked up to her and asked. “You alright? Need to go to the washrooms again?” Michiko looked up at her and noticed her worried expression, she felt a bit relieved but she didn’t feel like throwing up. “No, I’m fine. It’s just I don’t feel comfortable watching those type of scenes. I always fast-forward them whenever I watch movies.” Michiko said with a shy smile and warmth rising from her cheeks.

Yoshioka chuckled and was surprised by her words. After all, she wondered how Michiko ended up getting pregnant if she doesn’t like watching scenes like this one.

“Well I’ll be in the studio monitoring the scenes. If I need you, I’ll call you.” Yoshioka said before she snuck quietly back inside the studio.

Michiko sighed and started to walk around the floor. As she walked, she smiled and bowed her head when she encountered a few comedians and announcers from the station but other than that, she couldn’t stop imagining the bed scene between the actress and Nino.

Of course she knew that it wasn’t real but the thought of it made her feel queasy and uncomfortable. She had become upset and angry about the thought that Nino could easily go to different women while she was stuck thinking and concerning herself over their child and her future.

Michiko’s feet were getting a bit sore from walking, so she sat at a small lounge area where a few people were either smoking or on their cell phones, some people were doing both! She let out a small sigh and turned her head towards the huge glass windows where the scenery had stretched across the northwest side of Tokyo. She could even see both Tokyo Tower and the recently built Sky Tree Tower all in the same view.

“Can I sit here?” A voice called out to her from beside her. She looked over and noticed a short male senior who was wearing sunglasses and a hat. Michiko furrowed her eyebrows and looked around to notice that there were other seats he could have sat at but then she noticed his sunglasses, so she though that he was blind or had trouble seeing. She couldn’t exactly turn down him so she had no choice but to allow him to sit down beside her.

With a warm smile she replied, “Sure” and he quickly sat down beside her. The man had a bright smile on his face and stared at the scene she was looking at. “Tokyo is a pretty city, isn’t it?” The man asked as he stared.

Michiko blinked her eyes and looked at him, wondering if he was talking to her or talking to himself. “Ah, yes it is.” She replied, hoping that he had directed the question to her. After there was no immediate reply, Michiko felt like the man wanted to start a conversation with her so she added. “I’ve lived here for my entire life but this is the first time that I’ve seen Tokyo like this.” She continued to smile as the conversation had died down again.

She was confused and a bit embarrassed with herself that her observation was wrong, as it seemed like he didn’t want to have a conversation with her. Warmth rose from her cheeks and she made a shy smile as she looked at the same scenery as him.

A few minutes later, Michiko got tired of looking at the boring scenery so she looked around the lounge area. There were about 5 tables with chairs, 4 benches to sit on and 3 vending machines that were available. On top of that, most of the walls in the lounge area were covered with posters of various things like movies, dramas, singles/albums, theatre performances and also information given out by the station.

Then there was an interesting ad that caught her eyes. It was an ad of Honami holding several conventions on managing both work and being a mother. Immediately, Michiko chuckled at the poster as soon as she saw it, for she thought that it was a useless and ridiculous convention. Practically it was advertising that the convention was going to be all about Honami. She couldn’t see Honami being a good mother and wife. However she took some time to think over the purposes of the convention and she began to become curious about it so she thought it would be interesting to attend.

She had a feeling that if she were to have the child, she would somehow need to manage both the child and work. She didn’t want to expect that Nino was going to help her support their child since he may think it would be in his way of his career.

“Sir, we have to leave now.” Michiko heard a voice approach them. The man looked at the lady and got up from his seat. But before he left, he shined her a smile and said, “It was nice talking to you.”

Michiko bowed her head as she saw him leaving her alone in the lounge area. But for a second, she wondered what he meant when he said, ‘it was nice talking to you’. She shrugged off her thoughts and started to focus on a bigger question. She needed to tell Nino that she’s pregnant. She couldn’t hold it in any longer and desperately wanted to know what his answer will be if he found out that he has a child on the way.

A/N: As you can tell after reading, this chapter was a filler and that's why it's short. I didn't know what to write at the time so I added this in.

Hopefully you know who the man is in this chapter. It's not very obvious but somehow I wanted him to have a small part in the story. He's always watching over and knows everything. (Not in a creepy way...) (*ノ▽ノ)
