I don't know if I've ever told this story to you...
This old lady bought something on her card in one town and returned it in another where sales tax was different. As a result the amount returned was about $0.10 less than the amount she purchased.
She called to complain. Naturally, as luck would have it, she had no finance charges or anything that I could remove and say "ok mrs. penny pincher, I'll give that dime back to you". So I spent probably ten minutes on the phone with her before convincing her it was something she'd just have to take up with the store.
Erin, I have been in the same place you were. I hated express for that fact alone. We had bitchy old farts yelling at us while we waited for those ten or less. Although, I hated anyone that was over ten because it pissed other customers off.
Now that I'm not a cashier, I love to remind people that it's an express lane when I'm stuck behind the morons who take 30 items through. That's even too much for Wal-Mart's "express" lane!
Um, I typed lance and not lane. I'm a dork.
Anyhoo, go you for sticking to your guns on the whole thing. You're a cool cashier!
