[Amelia is scowling. This is not an unusual occurrence]

So, let me get this straight. Those of you here who have powers, people just let you…wander around with ordinary citizens? And live with them? You’re not-

[Whatever she was about to say is lost as the phone clatters from suddenly numb hands. There’s a pause, footsteps, and then the distant ( Read more... )

...You're saying we should be locked away? [No, sorry, but fuck that--

--what just happened.] You're psychic?

Did you hear me say that? I'm just asking a question. [She's still looking vaguely pale and unsettled]

Extremely.

What else did you see? [And for once he's going to drop the thing he's offended about, because this sounds important. S'ok he'll bring it up later.]

[She straightens, some of the colour coming back into her face. This, she can do. When she speaks her tone is clipped, formal] It was a four second vision occurring in three bursts. A blur of red - blood - a close up on the hand, too white, and then a shot of the arms. They were reaching for something, but I couldn't see what. Trying to force another vision is getting me nothing except headaches, which means there are too many things they could be reaching for for me to be able to handle. The whole thing was accompanied by a feeling of being - incredibly disturbed. Like something was intensely wrong.

[There's a pause, and then she gives a slightly sardonic smile] That's it.

With everything that's already happened here, this doesn't sound like anything good will come of it.

[A pause.]

You are able to see the future?

There won't be. I can guarantee that much, unless we can change it.

[She nods] I see the things that will happen if everything remains as it is and will be in the moment I have the vision. But then if I change a variable that leads to it, or my talking about it changes a variable, then the future changes. And I have to seek out another vision.

How can we stop something if we don't even know what it is?

You can control it? [Powers make no sense to her :C]

[She's rubbing her forehead again] If anyone knows something...if I can get more information about what it might be, I'll know what to look for. So to speak. Otherwise I'm just fumbling about in the dark.

...I can't stop myself from getting a vision, but I can call on them if it's necessary. I can't control the future, though. Only my actions as they relate to it. [a beat, and then she gives a faint smile] And other people's, if I browbeat them into it.

Why shouldn't we walk around with people without powers?

Oh, I don't know, because a bunch of us have this strange tendency to blow things up?

x23laura January 1 2012, 20:30:25 UTC
That is a generalisation. Many people with powers cannot blow things up. Also people without powers can blow things up with a bomb.

[She rolls her eyes] I know that. But they can use superstrength to hurt people, superspeed to get by undetected and wreak havoc, turn invisible to do the same, read people's minds to steal secrets, blind people with light manipulation - the list is endless. Even someone like me could hurt or maim someone accidentally if I was taken by surprise, because my reflexes are instinctual. It's not worth the possibility that someone could get hurt.

And you find something wrong with that? You seem to be doing the same here. [ 'Here' being the key word; she's not making assumptions on the young woman's home ]

I'm trying not to. [And it's true, she's been mostly staying in her own little corner of Abax since she realised there are civilians wandering about]

I mean, my powers aren't so bad, but I could still kill a civilian if they surprised me.

May I ask what they are? I've had experience in helping people with abilities.

[ He looks annoyed, and appears to be totally ignoring that whole second part of what she said. ]

What the hell do you mean by let us wander around? Like there's something wrong with us?

Not wrong, dangerous. What is with you people?

You people. [ Beat. ]

And I thought we'd left racist assholes like you behind. Who the hell are you to call anyone dangerous? You want to watch who you talk to, girl. You might upset someone who's really dangerous.

Racist? Racist? I'm a freaking super! I don't start throwing up and getting migraines for fun!

[Her face twists into a sneer] Right, right. Because there's no possible way that a Secondary could defend herself against the might of a Primary Active. I'm so sorry for offending you, good sir, when you're clearly such a reasoned and polite individual! Please, allow me to let you walk right over me.
