[ It takes Galadriel several moments to orient herself, for at first there is only pain and discordance. She feels it keenly; heart and soul, body and mind. She is no longer in Arda marred. Her connection to those lands, strengthened over several millennia, has dwindled. Moreover, the presence of her husband is torn from her, leaving only emptiness ( Read more... )

[She is just going to stare a moment before bowing her head in reverence.] This is no land inside nor outside Arda. Mithrandir is here, as is Legolas of Mirkwood and Haldir of Lórien.

Are you in need of aid, my lady? I can come to you.

[ Her granddaughter's voice breaking the silence catches Galadriel off guard, for she hadn't felt Arwen's presence - and still doesn't. Her gaze zeroes in on the strange contraption on the floor, the small square now lit up. Cautiously, she approaches the phone, staring down at Arwen's face with no little incredulity.

To err on the side of caution, Galadriel follows suit and responds in Sindarin instead of Westron. Arwen's information is momentarily set aside in favor of trying to figure out exactly what that thing on the ground is. ]

No seeing-stone I know of looks like this. [ Cautiously, she kneels and touches the screen with a fingertip. Sorry, Arwen, she's rather confused. ] Never in all my life have I seen such a thing. How can this be?

[She's not surprised by her grandmother's response. There's a soft smile.] It is foreign magic known as a phone. I am not in the stone, but I do not suggest dropping it like Master Samwise.

This is not Middle Earth. It is a city known as Abax. Our captors have not made themselves known and dark magic has kept us here. It resides in the city as well. [She looks grim at this, but with the appearance of a strange tree that resembles the tree of Gondor, she is more wary than ever.]

Are you still in the bottom dwelling of the healing house?

A phone. How curious.

[ She's still not sure how well she likes this phone, but that's a worry for another day. Galadriel's brow furrows lightly as she listens, but other than that, she doesn't react outwardly; she is, however, thinking upon all that she's hearing furiously. Dark magic, with others than just Arwen and herself taken as well? It's quite disconcerting. At length, she nods her head slowly in understanding and agreement. ]

I have felt it, the faint presence of a shadow. I can say no more of it now, but prudence is a good counsel in these matters.

[ At Arwen's question, a smallest of smiles tugs at the corner of Galadriel's lips. ]

A very cold, lifeless place for a house meant for healing, is it not? But indeed, I am still in the room in which I awoke. [ A pause. ] I believe I have need for a slightly more suitable raiment than the one I am wearing.

Well, I don't know for sure, but as for the intent? My current theory is that it's an attempt to break a world record for either the biggest camping trip ever or the biggest nocturnal tea party. I'm not entirely sure which yet, but I'm pretty confident it's one or the other.

[ And what have we here? Thanks to Arwen's explanation, Galadriel is not particularly surprised to see and hear another person on this strange device. Her head tilts a little; something elusive about this man is telling her all is not as seems, but she's not certain yet if that's just due to some lingering disorientation. Even though she's not quite certain about the meaning of everything he just said, his impudence earns a rather unimpressed look from the Elf. ]

Indeed? And what evidence on the matter had you crafting such beliefs, may I ask?

Well, isn't it obvious?

[He shrugs.]

I'm kinda leaning towards the tea party, to be honest, 'cause there's all these tea bags and milk and sugar in the cafés. I mean, what else could that possibly mean? Tell me if you think of some other explanation, by all means - I wanna take every possibility into consideration.

[ ...Well done, Gabriel. That actually gets a smile out of her. One of amusement, no less. She has no idea what a café is, but she can infer from context. ]

When presented with such conscientious reasoning, how might I possibly disagree?

[Oh~ It's no elf that he's ever met or seen. He's seen pretty elves like Laurana and Silvara, but Galadriel bears a beauty different from the other two.]

I thought this was the afterlife, but it's a very strange afterlife, and I haven't seen my friend anywhere.

...you're not from the Qualinesti or the Sylvanesti elves, are you..?

[ Curious. This one has some Elvish features, and yet he doesn't appear to fall into any division of Elves found in Arda. With a kind smile, Galadriel replies. ]

I am unfamiliar with those names, I fear. I am a Noldorin Elf, and I hear I have two friends here who are Silvan Elves. Galadriel is my name; may I ask yours?

[He smiles, pleased that he's guessed right- but the name mentioned doesn't ring any bells either.]

Well I haven't heard of a Noldorin Elf. But then I never heard of Kagonesti elves either until a while ago.

Having friends here is good though- I wonder if I'll see anyone I know? I doubt Flint would like it here. It's a very strange city, and the sun doesn't ever come out. I wonder why?

-it's nice to meet you, Galadriel! I'm Tasslehoff Burrfoot.

[ Galadriel listens with a smile, laughing softly at his rambling. His manner greatly reminds her of the Hobbits, and that already is enough for her to like him. ]

Well met, Tasslehoff Burrfoot. Where does your kin hail from? I would be very curious to learn more, for all the elves you mentioned are entirely foreign to me.

[Narya hums on his hand, like as always, calls to like. Another Ringbearer has arrived in Abax. The mysterious and likely nefarious white tree in the park will have to wait a moment. This is a far greater power that needs addressing.

[The old wizard's face fills the screen, a quiet, pleased smile on his face. Haldir will be thrilled to see her again. A slight bow.] Abax is indeed fortunate this day. Lady.

[ That voice and face are greatly appreciated, and indeed it's with a warm, fond smile that Galadriel replies. ]

Mithrandir. A surprise to find you here in this ill place, my good friend, but a happy one. It brings me great joy and comfort to have one so wise and true standing by our side.

[It has been a very, very long time since he's seen such light. Blue eyes are warm, crinkling at the corners as he smiles.] It is indeed curious that so many of us are so far removed from Middle Earth, Lady. I do hope you will forgive my happiness for seeing you here. We are in need of your counsel as well as your own wisdom.

All is well so long as you extend me the same courtesy, for I am no less pleased of your presence. It does seem we have a veritable riddle on our hands, here.

[ She pauses for a moment, her tone lowering a touch. She does not trust this phone to be a completely safe method of communicating about certain things. ]

Arwen mentioned a thought to me earlier, and I would greatly desire to speak with you of it and other things as well; but not ere we are away from prying eyes and ears.

The halls of who?

Lord Námo is the Doomsman of the Valar, though more often he is called Mandos. He is the keeper of the slain, Elves and Men alike. His Halls lie on the westernmost shore of Aman, the blessed Elven realm of Arda.

[ With that, she scrutinizes Arya kindly and curiously, but says nothing further as of yet. ]

[She tries to follow, but only one and a half words stick out, there: Doom and Valar. Hiding her excitement doesn't really work.]

What's Valar?

You certainly ask short questions which have no short answers, Little One.

[ Galadriel smiles in amusement at the child's evident excitement. She will try to answer as succinctly as possible. Or not. ]

The Valar are the Powers of the World, seven Lords and seven Queens. They are great spirits whom descended into Arda, the world, after its creation to guide and order its growth, and to prepare it to the coming of Children of Ilúvatar; Elves and Men. And ere you ask, Ilúvatar is the Father of All, the great creator.
