A secure, central location in case of emergencies, supported by several outposts might work better. Scattered has its disadvantages, but if we're too localized, we might miss something.

Military-grade weaponry? No. But we've managed to scavenge plenty that will work in a pinch, if you don't mind going low tech. I'm also working up a supply of molotovs and other home-made explosives.
