If you're unfamiliar with the technology I'm going to be at the clock tower for a while and I'm happy to help explain it to you

Oh! That was quick, or maybe you were already here and I just didn't notice.

{She smiles like a pretty assistant should, lying just a bit because she knew damned well he hadn't been there. She had made sure she was alone. She tucks her phone into the purse she had picked up in a store and straightens her jacket.}

[He returns the smile with a thinly-veiled amused one of his own. He can see right through her lie though he suspects it wasn't so much for him in the first place as for herself and professional pride.

He adjusts the cuffs of his new suit idly.]

You mentioned being competent with the technology of this place. You're clearly no more a natural resident than the rest of us--but my guess is this is similar to what is normally found on Mid--Earth, yes? [He doesn't wait for an answer.] Show me what you know.

{Pepper raises her eyebrow at his highhanded demeanor, but she had offered freely in her video so she doesn't comment on it...yet. She does wonder about the 'Earth' and his obvious desire to call it something else.}

{The man looks like he is, but at the same time there's something about him that stands her hair on end.}

Well, as I'm sure you've figured out these are a communication device.

{She draws hers back out.}

They're referred to as phones, cells, cellphones, mobiles, and some other names...

{Pepper proceeds to show him everything he needs to know about a phone and how to locate names in the address book.}

I didn't at first either, but then I thought I'd check it on the off chance...and the names were matching up with the ones people were sending out.

[Sigh. :< Y she no smart like you?] This technology thing is a damn sight more difficult than it looks.

{People can't measure by Pepper she does this for a living.}

Would you like me to explain some it to you? I'm sure you could figure it out by yourself with a bit more practice, but if you'd like the assistance I have no problem giving you some pointers.

Huh. Our captors are going to a lot of trouble here, but in the wrong areas, I think. The whole "wake up in a morgue, now find food, shelter, and clothes," seems at odds with "here, have a list of everyone who's here."

It does seem a little counterproductive to their 'survival' theme here, but they also put us in a city that seems to be fully stocked.

Yeah, stocked. But this place looks more like there was some electrical surge and everyone left. Which doesn't explain how some lights work and some don't, I know, but I feel like maybe the food here wasn't necessarily meant for us, and I can't help but wonder how long it'll last.
