Not being able to sleep through the night was a feeling that Ciel had long since become accustom to. There were many reasons for this, discomfort never having been one of them. Sebastian made sure of that. So why was he so uncomfortable now? Slowly, his eyes began to open, though they didn't need to for him to sense that something was off. The clean smell that filled his nostrils was just a bit too clean, like a hospital. Was he in the hospital? Had Sebastian actually allowed him to fall? He supposed he wouldn't put such a thing above the demon. After all, he'd said himself that, while he would not allow Ciel to die, he wouldn't go out of his way to keep the boy from being in pain. But, other than the cold that seemed to be penetrating him to the bone, there was no pain. Could he really have fallen ( ... )

He heard his name as soon as it was whispered--perhaps not with his own ears, but even more clearly than if he had. His attention was caught. The only person in the world capable of calling him in such a manner was his contractor. And sure enough a moment later, there was the child himself, snappy and impatient as always. Cold, was he? What a travesty. How would he ever manage to survive, his delicate, frail little master? Well, in case he hadn't noticed, his butler was bleeding out, so perhaps that could wait a moment. The demon's eyes flickered from the boy's face down to his feet, and for a long moment all he could concentrate on was the shape of Ciel Phantomhive's small footprints in his blood. Slowly his gaze drifted back upward. The boy wasn't wearing his eye patch. That really shouldn't have been the most important thing. If Sebastian were in his right mind, he might fist have been more concerned with the fact that he had no idea where they were, or that he was coughing now, blood splattering onto his palm as he covered his ( ... )

Considering Sebastian's current state, it took longer than it really should have for what was happening to sink in with Ciel, and even longer for him to act. Having Sebastian as a sort of safety blanket was, for the most part, a good thing, but in times like these it seemed a little less so. Instead of really taking the time to take in his surroundings, he'd simply walked through this place as if he were walking down the hall in his own home, confident that, no matter where he was or what situation he was in, Sebastian would be there to fix things. The realization that said butler was in no state to help anyone out of anything hit him like a splash of cold water to the face. The boy had prepared himself mentally for many different things...Sebastian not being around had never been one of them ( ... )

Oh, good. Ciel was finally getting it. Just in time, too, as Sebastian's vision was beginning to swim. Yes, stop the bleeding. But there was nothing on hand. They would need something to wrap tight around his chest, cover the wound--bandages, preferably. But where would they find bandages in a morgue? He looked down then at the ground, and caught sight of something he hadn't noticed before. Wrapped around his toe was a...a tag. With the way it was soaked in the blood from the floor, and how his vision becoming steadily more blurry, he couldn't make out the words on it, but it was a curious enough thing to give him pause. But a moment later he decided it was no matter. Much more important matters to tend to. "I can try," he responded, the words sounded choked, "but I will lose more blood ( ... )
