In those very moments, Shadow very much misses Mister Nancy, because the crazy old spider would have made him laugh, and smacked him in the back of the head, and it would have been appropriate

He may well have summoned another of his kind, or near enough to it: he does think loud thoughts...

There might be a footstep and Jacquel enters, in his shirtsleeves, looking for some coffee himself, likely of a stronger brew. "Care for some company?" he asks.

“I was hoping for some,” Shadow replies soberly. He stifles a yawn, and a crackle in the pan reminds him that he's got breakfast cooking.

“Sorry,” he says, and turns to tend to it. “Had a good night?”

"Quiet night, I suppose it was a good night," he says. "No one died here. But the quiet can fray on your nerves, if there's too much of it."

“It can. Calm before the storm, all that,” Shadow agrees.

He rolls his shoulders.

“So did you hear more from Tsuzuki about the recruitment?”
