So I have an apartment. It's 90% finalized. I'll be in Astoria, near the Astoria blvd stop, but within walking distance of Steinway.  It's a nice place, nearly as sizable as what we had in Buffalo. It has windows, a full kitchen, a crappy little bathroom (on a diagonal- deja vu as for the current place ( Read more... )

...all night long.

I'm sorry, I had to. You left yourself open for that, kiddo. It's true, though, we were known to hang out on the couch watching informercials ALL NIGHT LONG BABY.

...I'm done now.

I may have said this before, but real estate works much the same in boston. It sucks, but 99% of the time the only way to get a place is through a broker, and then you get to pay the lovely broker's fee.

yeah, the place with a broker was nicer than any of the places I saw without them. so, yeah. the fee sucks. is it 15% there too?

It's usually equal to one month's rent. Sometimes the landlord will pay half of the fee, and then you only half to pay half of the broker's fee. So for my place now (2 bedroom), the rent is 1600 a month. We had to pay half the fee, so we paid 1600 for the first month's rent, 800 for the fee, and 1600 security deposit. I love Boston but man the rent is tough.

why are realtors out there such asshats??

we've been using a chick out here whenever we spot a house we are interested in, and she's all over being our friend and being nice. i've got magnets and key chains and pens and stuff...she's great.

I don't know. maybe it's because they make enough money to drive brand new Mustang Convertibles, like...the one that showed me this place.

too bad, does your chick deal in NY? haha, because if so- then next time...

oh yeah, one guy who showed me a place was stoned out of his mind, too. Couldn't smell it, but it could not have been any more obvious.

Aww, my congrats! You need to take lots of pictures and post so we can all live vicariously through you. Though, if you DO do that, you'll look like a tourist (like the gaping awe during the 10th floor interview, huh), so maybe you shouldn't, lest any more people be rude to you. You're from Buffalo, the City of Good Neighbors, were people start up conversations in waiting rooms, bank lines, and elevator rides. Now you're in NYC, rumored to not be as open or friendly. How is that adjustment?

sorry, this is so random and probably ultimately fruitless, but:
i saw your post on newyorkers and saw that your last name is aronin, which was my grandmother's maiden name. i have never met another aronin before that i wasn't related to, so i don't know why but i'm dropping a note. cheers to the name.

well thanks!

though I have to come clean. it's a name I "made up" when I was in high school

Aaron + Nine Inch Nails (nin) = Aaronin. Ten years later, I'm sort of stuck with it.

So, it's mostly coincidence and I don't think we're related!
