There's a scripture in Ecc that says God is the only one who can take our lives. He can create us and he can end us. He's the only one that has that power.

My long time friend just committed suicide on January 6th of this year. So it was very recently and I'm trying to understand her death. Why would she not want to live to see her children grow up? (The oldest one is in Kindergarten.) God put us on this Earth to glorify Him. How is it glorifying to God if we choose to end a life of which God has created so beautifully? Dying when it's God's timing make sense to me. Dying before God's timing doesn't.

I agree that its never a good idea to end a life - whether suicide or Euthanasia. Death always ends peoples options and hopes.

I guess what I wonder is - God is the only one who controls life and death - and so it fits logically that you cannot alter your time. One must then assume that death comes when it is supposed to and that all death is tragic.

But also, I would never see suicide or euthanasia in any way positive - I was just saying that I did not equate it with the sin of "murder". And we see a variety of suicides in the bible - Samson being a notable one. We see cases of Euthanasia as well - King Saul being an obvious choice. Neither time are we told in the scripture that they had done something especially heinous in causing their own deaths.

The guy who helped Saul die was judged because he touched the Lord's anointed. But little was said over the acceptance of death by Saul.

Thoughts?

Hmm. I'm just thinking that even if God talks about it, it doesn't mean it was ok. For instance, Lot slept with his daughters after leaving Sodom?, the bible talked of same sex practices, etc. Even though HE didn't say it was out right wrong (until later in the bible) it doesn't mean it's ok. Our body is God's temple. Who are we to destroy it without God's consent? Thouh shall not murder means in every way, even committing suicide. God won't condemn us, but I think we will be judged by it. We will never know how He decides that.

I'm saying this because I struggled with attempted suicide since I was nine years old. and yet I was allowed to live. I knew that it wasn't my timing. I also think that though God doesn't approve of it, HE allows us to have that choice becuase it loves us so much, even if we choose the wrong choices. Any type of infliction whether it be to someone or ourselves will always be a sin. I hope this makes sense.
