Okay, so you know how with every single ship in fandom, each comes with its own set of ridiculous fanons that show up over and over and over again, be it in fanfic or fanart or wherever? You have to admit after a while it gets a little silly after a while, and the presence of one or two of these cliches can render an otherwise decent fic...

I just don't understand it at all, because um, on top of being super smart and a crack shot, excuse you but RIZA HAWKEYE IS A HOTTIE WITH A BODY. (That's what Roy said.)

(Can I also complain about stories where Roy doesn't NOTICE she's hot until she takes off her uniform and then suddenly her tough exterior melts and she's soft and feminine and then he's into it? Because NO.)

(And yes, yes you may complain about it because ew ew EW. As far as I'm concerned, aside from the blatant characterization fail there (Roy is totally aware, thanks), there is so much grossness with regards to ideas about women in male-dominated professions and their femininity going on in that particular trope that I can't even.)

Honestly, some of those look painful to have to read, though I know I've read one (Riza pregnant) that sounded horrible but was utterly fantastic. I guess it's how good the writer is rather than if it's a common trope.
Nice list here.
*whispers* What's up with the beef stew. I have no memory of this in canon. */whispers*

<3______<3 CAN THAT DAY BE SOMEDAY SOON? PRETTY PLEEEEEASE?
The endlessly drawn out UST, natch.
Haha well the endlessly drawn out UST is pretty canon... except that so often in fic it is less organic and SUPER CONTRIVED. So by the time you get a payoff you're just like, really? Did you really have to take THAT LONG FOR THAT?
I guess it's how good the writer is rather than if it's a common trope.
Indeed! Cliches are not inherently bad (though some are worse than others, but usually for reasons outside of just being common).
As for the beef stew... I HAVE BEEN WONDERING THIS FOREVER?! I am kind of guessing it is fanon that sprung from some popular fic at some point, but honestly that's just a guess.

As for it being some day soon... we'll see. I'm not feeling optimistic about it, but it's there and really cemented in full story form. If I've learned nothing about me and fanfiction, I know that if I have a full story in my head, it's coming out. I just have to get up the nerve to go back to writing, especially a pairing I've never done.

And ahh, new fandom jitters, those I can understand. Well, no rush! Just know that I will be awaiting with eyes like silly cartoon hearts whenever it does come. ;)

And omg, you have no idea. Even authors I would normally trust fall into this trap! I JUST... DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY. EXCEPT MAYBE: "NO."

I too am skeptical over the "references beef stew" and "Riza is called plain or described as a tomboy." Don't think I heard of those cliches before. ._.

I generally find the beef stew thing a lot more on ff.net. It's more just a side-detail that gets mentioned as ~Roy's favorite food~ or something, but it reoccurs enough to make me WTF. As for the plain/tomboy thing, it shows less frequently, but trust me, I've seen it more than a handful of times.

If I ever write Royai for whatever reason, though, I will come back and find this. XD

FYI, My face at the idea of you writing Roy/Riza: ♥______♥

Anyway. I will save this comment in my fic folder and if I ever get into a writing mood I will see what happens. ♥
