Posting again. :D

But, guh! Words cannot express how absolutely full of glee I become when my readers actually get it. Seriously, it just makes my day. And then it makes me want to stay up all night writing. :D ( Read more... )

I depend a lot on Document Manager on ffnet. Right now it is compressing the document into a window only a couple of inches from top to bottom. It is making it very hard to check the document before publication. (I check it for grammar and spelling on WP before checking word count on ffnet). My problem is that I leave out words while typing which a spell check and grammar check will not find.

That's funny that it's acting up for you. It was working just fine for me earlier. Maybe its your browser?

I often do this too. I guess my brain is just too fast for my fingers to keep up with on the keyboard.

It wouldn't be so bad if I weren't so impatient. When I finish a chapter, I don't want to spend forever editing it. I just want to post it already... probably because I've already spent ages writing it. *SLOW*

When I reread my own stories, I want the feeling that I wrote each chapter immediately after the other - and, though I know otherwise, no hint that there were actually months if not years between installments.

This is why I embrace the serial-style, because if you do go eons between updates, that doesn't automatically become a bad thing. True serials are tough to write, as each entry should stand alone as well as contribute to a frame story, but its a challenge I embrace because I'm stupid like that =)

Otherwise? Totally agree. I often will go back and read the parts of my stories when I'm ready to work on another installment, so I can get back into the universe and the mood and the flow I've set up - not to mention tie all my plot ends together, haha :P

Never mind that long waits are always a bad thing? =P But I can definitely see what you mean. Serials certainly make it easy for anyone to jump in at any point - before getting sucked back to the beginning. I'll have to try my hand at one someday, but I do love the more traditional "beginning to end" kind of story...

It's so much harder than it should be sometimes... *sigh* :)

Just wait until YOU'RE in the middle of a bunch of WIPs, and then we'll talk about having to wait :P The muses, they are fickle creatures...

I pretty much *can't* write that way anymore, which makes me sad :-/ It'd be easier if I could get myself out of the mode of "HAI SUMMARIZE NAO STUPID", although really, that helps as well - you remember where you are, what has happened, and what needs to happen, so its not only good for readers to jump aboard anywhere ;)

But being creative is the end goal, no? :)

And this is why I've only reposted Sanctuary so far, of the three multi-chapters I left hanging (one of which is officially Abandoned anyway), and have yet to post any new lengthy WIPs or ideas. Self-preservation FTW!

This is actually probably why I don't write them myself - summarizing just annoys me, lol. Even as a reader I have the urge to just skim past the rehashing...even though it's convenient if it's been a while since I last visited the story. But I tend to reskim anyway, because I like keeping the entire context of the story in mind as I go. (It also makes it easier to try and guess where the author's going next! XD)

True, this!
