Embroidery Tips for the PoD

A few people have been asking me for tips about hand-embroidering their titles for the Project of Doom books. Since, as of today, we only have 10 blocks left, it's a good time to get going!

I've been embroidering for a few years now, and have learned a bit through trial-and-error, so I thought I'd assemble some tips and examples. I hope this helps ( Read more... )

Fantastic post and perfect for the PoD! Could you possibly include links for any tutorials or books you might like for basic stitches? I'm a big fan of the tutorials on Sublime Stitching which is how I got started. :)

Do I remove the foundation paper prior to embroidering?

Yes. I make sure my blocks are squared up before removing the paper and putting the block on a hoop. Also, I leave the tension on the hoop a little looser than usual, as not to distort the seamlines.

Wonderful post! Thank you for the excellent ideas. I'm still too scared to try, mainly because I think all my fabrics are way too dark and busy, but maybe I'll give it a go on at least a couple of blocks.

Oh, don't be scared! Once you get going, it's really quite easy and rewarding. And you can always undo and try again! (I think I've become an expert at unpicking ;)) But, it's a natural complement to quilting in that you get to have the fun of choosing the colours of your floss to suit the blocks you've taken so much time to design.
