Indeed... the attempt's been made, but I've yet to achieve that here in Peoria. I'm honestly not sure what else I should/could do to make that better. Missing Chicago probably doesn't help matters any.

Growing up as a military brat, moving all over world every couple years, I never really ever had a sense of "home." It was simply where I lived, where the people and things that I loved were gathered.
Why not daydream... close your eyes, imagine a place where you'd want to live, imagine what it looks like, who's there, what's there... that should point you in the right direction. Listen to your heart, and not your head.
I think you can find home in the strangest places, but not everywhere. It's a combination of so many different things... I truly love the apartment we live in currently but it's totally in the wrong place (and I don't mean the street or the neighborhood, I mean the city and the country...). I have been trying hard, but I am convinced I don't belong here and don't believe I ever will. And I understand that feeling that you're searching for something you don't know exactly what or where it is. You'll find that eventually. Just make sure you don't let it go when you find it... :-)
