Concern

Jan 24, 2009 20:00

My mother doesn't remember my uncle's ex-wife at all, or even the fact that he was even married. Even though she was a regular part of family life for three years, and my mother was at the wedding.

I'm deeply concerned about this.

Yes I think it is something to be concerned about and I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm no expert but I helped my mother take care of my grandmother for 10 years as she suffered with Alzheimer's Disease. It is an insidious disease as it starts out on such a gradual curve. I hope you have a good enough relationship with her to talk with her about your concern. Fell free to message me if you need to talk about this or have any questions as I went through the process from beginning to end with my grandmother.

I concur with the above. Might be a good idea to discuss going to the doctor with your mom. I am dreading the day I have to do the same thing. Dementia/Alzheimers runs in my family on the female side.

Have a calm discussion with her and she if you fears are warranted. If so, seeing her doctor and testing is the next step. Just remain calm until you know anything for certain.

*hugs*

You have good cause for concern. I hope you and your mom can figure this all out, and I wish you lots of strength.

over Xmas my dad didn't remember that I was out of college for 8 years or that my dog or cat had died. He just had no clue. 2 hours later he was back to normal. Scared the shit out of me.
