Just remember to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they're probably asking out of honest ignorance/perplexity.

I have found that "Uh, neither. We're both guys," works pretty well as an answer.

there are also different types of chocolates that the girls buy. everything from *love* chocolate to *obligation* chocolate

If you really want to give them a good mindf*ck, point them toward the "Sanctity of Marriage" episode of This American Life [http://www.thislife.org/pages/archives/archive04.html#261, stream available]. The first story, about how people communicate in marriage (as studied by actual researchers), offers the surprising news that the worst homo couples communicate better than the best hetero couples. That's not a typo: every same-gender couple communicated better than the best-communicating mixed-gender couple.

That should blow a few fuses.
