So I'm flipping through the new Advocate, and the cover story is an article where they interview "gay icon Christina Aguilera."

Erm, wait -- she's a gay icon? Did I miss something?? o_O

I've noticed a tendency on the part of the Advocate to speak for homos everywhere out of turn. I think they just make shit up sometimes and expect everyone to just go with it.

I do remember that she was honored at the GLAAD yearly awards banquet a few years ago for her video "Beautiful" portraying gays and lesbians in a positive and dignified way.

I don't know that I'd acknowledge her as an icon, but I think many things she has said in interviews, and artistic choices she has made place her squarely in the "ally" camp.

I was flipping through the new Advocate (arrived yesterday), and the cover story is an article about (unsafe) sex party organizers pedaling death. International post and customs - it keeps me out of date. I'll be reading about the new gay icon in a few weeks I guess.
