I would define 'justice' as something like "giving people what they deserve". (Or "treating them how they deserve to be treated"). That can be in a positive, negative, or neutral sense.
That's distinct from 'equality', which is treating everyone the same, and 'lawfulness' which is treating them as the law prescribes.
I'd say it's pretty much the same thing as 'fairness', but fairness has a connotation of being impartial or egalitarian, whereas I think justice is more about the redress of imbalance. Plus, justice is more formal than fairness, which is kind of casual.
