Themes, Motifs and Symbolism.

This is something I've covered before, but I want to add a bit to it. Mainly, what are the themes running through your stories. Pending you've found one. Or if not that, re-accuring motifs or symbolism you've seen show up ( Read more... )

Phallic imagery is always fun to go with. Though anything to do with it in my stories usually get's a token 'compensating for something' joke.

That selfish evil vs. necessary evil is a good play on the otherwise black and white normal that get's used all the time.

I find myself exploring the sociopolitics of racism and immigrant communities a lot. But overall I've been writing lots of stuff recently that incorporates the dream/fever state and the kind of "dream logic" that accompanies it, and I'm not so sure about symbolism but probably plants? Different kinds of plants for different stuff.

Recurring themes of mine include sibling love, other familial loves, personal responsibility, and mental illness. Readers have commented that some of my writings have undercurrents of sadness.

I've sort of attached specific themes to the different main characters in my series as I planned their arcs, some of the biggest ones including dealing with guilt, grief, vengeance, and fear (this last one actually is most closely associated with my main protagonist, and in doing so I've possibly made some other, minor characters seem significantly more bad-ass in comparison haha...).
